| 16th June 2007 JasonKessler | Good advice - From: The World's Tallest Keep off the Grass Sign That place seems cool... it's always good to have a rooftop bar. I'll have to remember it the next time I'm in KL. |
| 15th June 2007 nemo from asiayak.com | Kuala Lumpur Backpackers - From: The World's Tallest Keep off the Grass Sign Nice write on your experiences in Kuala Lumpur. There are backpackers joints in Kuala Lumpur. It's just that it takes a little bit more effort to discover them. http://www.backpackerskl.com/ |
| 12th June 2007 JasonKessler | Re: Gross, yes, but not a record setting toilet - From: High Culture, Low Culture, Monkeys, and Ladyboys I noticed that in the picture as well... I had flushed the toilet a few times. Alex and I both were surprised at how clean the room appeared in our pictures-- perhaps it was the stench that warped out perception or our cameras weren't sensitive enough to pick up the fine film of filth that covered everything. I do agree that it's not record setting-- having been to summer camp and college, I've seen worse. Thanks for the Times article and the flattery! |
| 11th June 2007 John Turner | Gross, yes, but not a record setting toilet .. - From: High Culture, Low Culture, Monkeys, and Ladyboys I expect that your initial comment 'kind of off the map' is an understatement in the case of Penang. It was amusing to type in just "Malaysia" to Google maps, however, in an initial fruitless attempt to find out just where the hell you guys actually are. It was rewarding to see, scrolling down, that there was a snapshot of the toilet after the wonderful description of the abortive hotel room. But, hey, in the photo you can see the bottom just fine. And some parts of the floor didn't have dark mold. The picture actually looked a lot like the bathroom in the dorm of our youngest. I now have to add Penang Island to the list of places to see (I assume there are upscale hotels for the petit bourgeoisie -- turns out there is a well-known Jazz festival on the Island in December). It was comforting to see that one can buy a large than lifesize poster of Jesus in Little India, illustrating your description of 'liberal Muslim country.' BTW, the New York Times yesterday had a large spread on photos of Ankor (at http://tinyurl.com/39cf83). Yours were just as good. |
| 4th June 2007 JasonKessler | - From: Amusements at the Airport It's funny.. that hadn't occurred to me. You never know what could be hiding in a mysterious refrigerator. |
| 4th June 2007 JasonKessler | Re: Thom, wow! - From: New, Old, and Ancient Haha... I appreciate your flattery. It's great reading your comments! Surprisingly, our driver spoke excellent English and was able to give us a bit of background on each of the sites. I was a little too awestruck to absorb much of it. As a matter of fact, just about everyone I met in Cambodia spoke English decently (the same couldn't be said for Thailand.) The phramacist actually didn't quote me a price on the whole bottle. Given the condition of the pharmacy, I suspect it might have had to go a long way. |
| 4th June 2007 John Turner | Thom, wow! - From: New, Old, and Ancient The great narrative continues. The snapshots of Thom (and also Banyon) were just amazing. I can imagine wandering around there for days if there was an English speaking guide to explain why it was all so complex. [And, as an afterthought, I presume your mother has also ordered you to go back to the pharmacy and buy the whole damn bottle of Tylenol!] |
| 4th June 2007 Curly Sue | ?!?!?!?! - From: Amusements at the Airport With the whole "mystery drink + 13 hour plane flight=?" thing, you'd better realize how lucky you are that it wasn't a laxative drink. . . :) |
| 3rd June 2007 John Turner | Amazing report ... please keep it coming! - From: Darkness at Noon Jason, Susan and I are enjoying your travel writings very much, indeed. You had me going on 'tuk tuk' however ... I was expecting the next paragraph to describe some small East Asian mammal which was common, but difficult to see during daylight. Eventually I was able to discern the importance to tourism and transportation :) It's actually a bit chilling that the Killing Fields are a tourist attraction. Obviously infamous, there are books and movies and all that, it seems from your remarks that things are intended to provide a moment of tourism angst or something. Gulp. Naturally your doting 'rents tipped us to your blog, while worrying about your frequent references to the mosquitoes. Lighten up on that ... mothers worry, you know! We look forward to more. Please keep it up! And be careful. And if you get a chance, buy another big bag of rice for those kids and we'll reimburse you. |

| 31st May 2007 JasonKessler | Re: Sounds Fun! - From: Yay! I still haven't gotten sick Hey mk, I'm traveling with my friend Alex, who I've known since preschool. He's also blogging the trip (http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/adog/), and has also been blogging. Right now, he's about two entries ahead, so you can get a sneak preview of my next entries. Bonus points for the first person who can spot inconsistencies :) -Jason |
| 30th May 2007 mk | Sounds Fun! - From: Yay! I still haven't gotten sick It seems like your adventures are off to a smooth start. One question, though: you keep using the word "we" so I was wondering who you're traveling with. Are you trying to do most things solo or did you join a travel group? |
| 25th May 2007 joek | I'll drink anything - From: Amusements at the Airport I give you points for courage and adventurousness but not for low suger diet. Be safe. Uncle Joe |
| 23rd November 2005 malina | Ljubljana - From: Amsterdam Meets Prague and Loses Drugs, Sex, and Foul Language Oh, it's very nice place, I've been living there for 5 months. It looks nice during the summer, but even better in December and January. I would recommanded Ljubljana to anyone who makes a plan to visit Eurpean towns. |
| 19th September 2005 Liz (girl from Wisconsin) | Good ol' Greece - From: Everything You've Heard about Athens is Wrong Nothing like getting around to finishing off that blog months after departing the dusty destination. I'm in that same boat - my memories have mostly faded away (I think an afternoon spent on the Acropolis helped sizzle a good portion of my cortex into Jello) but the blog has been left hanging with a week left to go. Hey at least you finished yours off. ;) Too bad that photo of us with the roses didn't make it home. That was incredibly random, yet kind. Thanks for the update! |

Aside from food and beer, you should add in a section about that in your Blog comments. Descriptiveness would be a plus here ;). - Alex |
