Naples and Pompei Europe » Italy » Campania » Naples
Hey all! We have been trying to post to tell you that we are now currently safe and sound in Italy, but the computer at the hostel we are at now, while free, freezes everytime we try to post. But we validated our Eur rail passes with no problem and got the cheapest tickets that we could get which were at a bargain price. We patiently waited for our ferry at the nice terminal for international trips. The ferry arrived right on time and we hurried out to meat it. The ferry that was to transport us was massive! It was [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone. It seems like a long time since we have last written, but its only been a coupe days. We have access finally, so we thought that we would fill you in on the past couple of days. But first - thanks for all the comments guys, they have been great. Also, a Happy Father's Day to our Dads. OK, so.... we last left off on our saga when we were spending our last night in athens. The next day we headed out to catch our bus to corfu. So the website said that there was a 10am bus that [View Full Entry]

Our Last Day in Athens Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens
Our last day in Athens was spent running around town to get to see the things we didn't have a chance to see before. It wasn't a rushed day, but it was a hot one. Our first stop was to get out morning yogurt from the market down the street. We walked and drank it as we headed to the metro station. From the next stop we got off and took our time walking to the National Archeological Museum. It is an impressive building, as they have copied the ancient Greek style of collumns for their entrance way. Everything is made [View Full Entry]

To Nafplio and Back Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens
Hi everyone! Seems like eons since we last wrote...really its only been a couple of days. Both of us want a chance to tell you all of what we have been up to since we were last in Athens. So, we are going to take turns - just to make things confusing :) June 9: Today was both really good, and really bad. The morning was good, we got up, went to the bus terminal - which we found no promblem I might add. Jan and I are getting a hang of this travelling thing me thinks. Any who we got [View Full Entry]

Not much to report today. It was a travel day mostly. We caught the 11 am bus back to Athens this morning after breakfast. The bus was 25 minutes late, but it is Sunday, we were happy that it even showed up! Once back in Athens after a 3 hour ride through the Greek country side, we took the city transit back to the metro station. From there we were able to locate our new hostel with relative ease. It is called Hostel Zorbas - come on we had to stay here just because of the name! Remind anyone of My [View Full Entry]

Well I have to say, that despite the previous day's pessimism regarding certain ruins, I have become a changed man. The ruins were quite impressive and in remarkably good shape. But before Jan gets ahead of himself, I am going to steal the keyboard to tell you guys about the site itself. Delphi is an UNESCO site. It is home to the temple of Apollo and the sanctuary of Athena. There is also a theatre (ampitheatre), stadium, gymnasium, and numerous treasuries. Most of the foundations of the site date back to the Mycenean period, but the ruins that we saw were [View Full Entry]

Last night we got two new roommates, a dad and his daughter were hostelling from Greece to Italy and finally to Slovenia. At first it was nice to room with them because the dad had paid for air conditioning for the room, it was heavenly!!! They were in bed early and both had some sort of "problem" during the night. The dad was a cronic snorer and the daughter had a crying fit sometime in the night. It was interesting. BUt we felt less bad when we woke up at 8 this morning and had to get ready and pack while [View Full Entry]

A Complicated Morning Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens
This morning was a much large headache than was necessary. We had attempted to book another night at this current hostel the night before, but the desk guy told us to wait untill the next morning. So we dilegently did. The next morning we sauntered down to make the booking only to be told that the hostel may be booked up for the night. The reason that they had not been able to book us the night before was because online bookings come in the morning and have priority over others. Alas their booking is not done by computer, so we [View Full Entry]

So, to start...lets just say that today was a much better day than yesterday. We woke up to the sun shining and a new day of travels ahead of us. Last night we had decided to go to the Acropolis, so after an interesting breakfast experiment (we went to the bakery across the street and ordered two cheese pockets...yeah...they don't use cheddar...) we stopped off at the grocery store around the corner to get two yogurts. We drank them as we walked down the street in to the morning sun. The street that our hostel is on is located snugly in [View Full Entry]
