Well, I can't really think of something to write down at the moment. Until I do, allow me to share some of my favorite quotes. Sometimes the wisdom of others helps you to find that which is in yourself (or so I like to think):

"Men are born ignorant. They are made stupid by education" -- Bertrand Russell,

"Life's too damn short." -- Armistead Maupin

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." -- Theodore Roosevelt

"Life doesn't make any sense whatsoever; why should I paint pictures that do?" -- Pablo Picasso

"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty." -- Mohandas Karamchund Gandhi

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you don't listen to it, you will never know what justice is." -- Howard Zinn

"I feel bad for guys who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's the best feeling they're going to have for the rest of the day." -- Frank Sinatra

"But you've gotta make your own kind of music/Sing your own special song/Make your own kind of music/Even if nobody else sings along." -- Mama Cass ("Make Your Own Kind of Music)

"Don't blame us if we ever doubt you/You know we couldn't live without you/Boston, you are the only, only, only" -- Dropkick Murphys ('Tessie)

"It's the terror of knowing/What the world is about/Watching some good friends/Screaming 'Let me out'/Pray tomorrow gets me higher/Pressure on people people on streets." -- Queen (Under Pressure)

"If Jesus came back and saw what's going on in his name, he'd never stop throwing up." -- Woody Allen ('Hannah and Her Sisters)

"You know, we always called each other good fellas. Like you said to, uh, somebody: You're gonna like this guy. He's all right. He's a good fella. He's one of us: You understand?" -- Henry Hill ('Goodfellas')

Joel: I can't see anything that I don't like about you.
Clementine: But you will! But you will. You know, you will think of things. And I'll get bored with you and feel trapped because that's what happens with me.
Joel: Okay.
Clementine: Okay.
-- Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind)

"Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened." -- Shel Silverstein

April 8th, 2009 - 8:59 hrs I’m sitting here in a boring room, passing away Wednesday morning sun, and all that I can see is just another lemon tree. That was an Oasis paraphrase for those who don’t recognize the twisted lyrics. I got the song from Francesca a few weeks ago and it’s instantly becoming an established favorite. A free flow of media and technology tends to occur between dorm-mates much like in any other university. Difference is the kind of media one receives, which thus far has been highly diverse here in Moscow. I’ve downloaded French ballads and Turkish pop, been pointed in the direction of classic movies I haven’t seen like “Avara”, and watched LOST badly dubbed in Russian with Swedish subtitles. All these wonderful things aside (and I do mean wonderful), I ... read more

March 27th, 2009 - 2201 hrs I’m sitting at a two-person table in a rusty boxcar on the way to Kazan. Outside my window, I see couples and families embrace in the cold Russian night. For this country it is a common sight wherever you go but tonight these hugs have an added intensity. There’s a small scent of iron in the air that carries through the terminal and before the doorway to your train. With passport and ticket in hand the only thing that stands between me and Tartarstan is a ten hour ride across snowy planes. Kazan is the capital of a semi-autonomous republic within the Russian federation. Its about as far as you can go before hitting the Urals and subsequent Siberian. This gives the city an added feeling of East meets West, ... read more

March 18th, 2009 - 2305 hrs I think from now on I’m going to try to keep music in the background when I’m writing my entries. Granted this is not always possible but when it is boy let me tell you. Dusty Springfield, Dvorak, Duran Duran, Dr. Dre, and that’s just a semi-random few who seem to bring something out in my creatively. It makes sense when you think about it. Music inspires so much feeling in me that I can sometimes see the mental dots connect on lines of emotion and memory. And, when I read this, I don’t want to look back in anger at what I wrote or more importantly didn’t write. Slip inside the eye of your mind, as Oasis would say. Last night was a unique story. I rounded up what ... read more

March 12th, 2009 - 840 hrs Yawn, snooze, wake, then stretch. I’m a bit more tired than usual, but it’s a feeling more akin to relaxation than exhaustion. Of course, when one has an experience such as that which I undertook last night, one is bound to be left with a lingering lightness of the body. Cryptic and flowery as that sounds my adventures with fellow international students reached a new height yesterday that has put me at ease. Moreover, my physical side got its own special treatment, but in a way you might presume. :) In Russia (and elsewhere in Europe and Asia), a very popular form of getting together is a trip to the banya. Friends, family members, business associates, even random strangers will gather in a closed set of rooms featuring showers, a ... read more

March 4th, 2009 - 2028 hrs For the life of me I can’t…stop…laughing. Francesca just knocked over the big plant in our dorm room waiting area. We all tried to help her scoop up the dirt and replace the “flowers” before the angry babushka came out to yell at us. That’s ok though, to no avail it did not matter. Shouting came and went and no we are at peace. Ah, what an inspiration. We’re talking about microwaving popcorn and watching “Kill Bill” after doing our homework. I learned yesterday that “Kill Bill” in Russian means/translates to “ubit bila”. My teacher also told me that St. Petersburg is referred to in Moscow as the Russian Chicago, for Mafioso reasons. Too funny. ‘Twas an interesting day. We (Cara and I) traveled on the Brown Line today and ... read more

February 22nd, 2009 - 1300 hrs I know I told myself that a break from the writing would be taken (lasting 2 days in length). However, I just wanted to mention a couple or few things that to date I have failed to comment on. These I like to call frustrations. First, and obviously, the weather. It’s not the slippery sidewalks, packed with snow and slush that will last until May. Its not the fact that you don’t need a forecast to tell you that everyday is “fucking cold” (I wanted to scream “da!” at a group of teenagers on the street complaining about “zimoi”). Nor is it the…actually, that’s about it. What really bugs me is the TIME you have to spend in it. Moscow is such a large city that even with all the ... read more

NOTE: Many more pictures are to come; it just takes a freaking long period of time to upload them. Red Square and inside the Kremlin before the week is out! February 17th, 2009- 9:00 AM central, 1800 hrs Moscow Have you ever had a feeling just rush right over you? I’m not sure how to describe it; close to apprehension, but not at the point of fear. An element of sadness yet not depressing in the least. More aggression than depression, perhaps directed at the lack of know-how for this feeling. I wrote in my journal for the first time today (thank you, stud). A fresh piece of paper, a fresh chapter in as many sense of the expression. It started this morning. I woke up around four minutes to 5:00 AM. My alarm set for ... read more
