Been on the road nine months now and been moving faster then ever, attempting to see as much of east Africa as possible. Malawi flew by with highlights, truly enjoyed it, their experiencing many great people so friendly and generous. With a wonderful lake, fertile land and the stunning Mt. Mulanje. Justin and I were fortunate enough to be accompanied by some students from the USA that have been living their for a few months showing us an insider perspective. Introducing us to many of the local people and taking us through the village they our working in. A nice change of pace from the current touristy trail. From Malawi we took a 35 hour bus ride to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where we met Justin's friend Stephanie that will be traveling with us for a ... read more
World cup of soccer has been a dream come true, a wonderful tournament put on by FIFA and the country of South Africa. I have enjoyed thoroughly the matches, the atmosphere and living with a very kind generous family in Pretoria during the tournament. Our first match was the USA vs England in the city of Rustenburg. What a game! A draw to the delight of many USA fans. The Vuvavella made famous here (loud horn used at matches) created an unforgettable atmosphere. Staying in a camp within a nature reserve was very nice. Had projector and nice television so I was able to watch every match. My cousin and I camped with Timmy D from Canada, and Redman from the UK who just completed volunteer work together in Madagascar. On the 5th night in Rustenburg ... read more
Bush Fire festival in Swaziland was soooo AWESOME! Showed up with Justin and Hanan to the campground adjacent to the festival for 3 nights. The festival took place at a very special venue “House of Fire” in the country side of Swaziland. With a partially covered amphitheater stage made with custom art work sculptures built into the structure. Like nothing i"ve seen before so much time and love put into it. Behind the amphitheater area was a full festival stage with a field that held up to 10,000 people. The music was very unique world / African music. A bit different from music I am accustomed to. Some headliners were the Parlatones and Freshly Ground both of which played at the World Cup opening concert in Johannesburg last Thursday. Many local Swazi's attended, a strong ... read more

Taking the 7 hour flight on a Boeing 747 Malaysian air flight I left my journey of nearly 5 months in South America for Cape Town, South Africa. Landing on the continent of Africa has been a big dream of mine for years. The wildlife, the people, cultures and most of all the wide open spaces with limited modern technology. A place with pure unspoiled landscapes with potential to apply renewable energy systems to already sustainable lifestyles. I have timed my trip here in Africa with another dream of mine, attending the World Cup of soccer/ futbol. Starting in less than three weeks from now. Landing in Cape Town South Africa on April 8th 2010 I checked into Long Street Backpacker in the main trendy area with restaurants, shopping and nightlife. A, great hostel excellent location ... read more
If you like big cities you'll love Buenos Aires along with loads of tourist that arrive every year. It's got the personality of a playful youth with the sophistication of a fine wine. ( a favorite beverage in all of argentina) Buenos Aires city known for steaks and tango has much to offer even to a wandering vegetarian that doesn't dance much. The city has many public parks, large art filled plazas, unique neighborhoods with differing personalities. There's a large cafe scene with nightlife galore that pumps until the sun comes up. A city of atleast 10 million, I truly enjoyed Buenos Aires, there is to much to do or see in the total of two weeks I was there. I will describe some of the highlights while in the city that never sleeps. As ... read more
Hola, all my travel blog followers I appreciate all the comments and those wishing me well along my journey. As the title indicates, I have travelled the distance of Peru all the way to the tip of South America to the city of Ushuaia in Tierra de Fuego on buses. Its been a great journey with so much diversity of landscapes meeting all sorts of people from locals to fellow backpackers. The last segement to the bottom was filled with spectacular scenery from Torres de Paine in the Chiliean patagonia to Ushuaia in Argentina. Torres de Paine is the big name natianal park that tourist flock to in Chile. The main attraction is the W circuit of 4-5 days or the Circuit which takes 10 days of trekking. I did a quick modified portion of ... read more
The city of El Clafate, Argentina attracts tourists of all kinds for its famous Perito Moreno glaciar nearby in the Glaciar Natianal park. The park is home to over 300 glaciers. The Perito Moreno glaciar is very accesable with look out paths and platforms with great close up viewings of the active glaciar. It is one of the only glaciars in the park that is stable or even growing. While the rest are suffering from warmer temperatures in the last several decades which is increasing their melting rate. Perito Moreno glaciar dramatically has house size pieces of ice break off, and fall into the lake below. The scene is very interesting displaying large splashes and the unique colors of different sides of the fallen iceburg as it slowly surfaces. I found most interesting the sound ... read more
Been blessed to experience the natural beauty of the areas around Bariloche and El Bolson Argentina. Its an outdoor wonderland, of course when the weather agrees. Crossed the border from Orsurno, Chile to Bariloche, a great 5 hour ride through semitropical forests filled with bamboo, pass pristine lakes, mountain peaks and volcanoes. The best scenery yet while crossing the Andes. I feel as though I am in the middle of a movie sometimes with the amazing experiences and scenery through my travels. Theres no substitute for independant travel, whether you are with groups with unlimited budget, or living week to week working on farms and hostels, hitchhiking from location to location earning money as you go. The places and the people are all so diverse, but at the same time a sence that in the ... read more
As I continue to head south from my origin in Lima, I left Santiago´s big city life for the village feel of Pucon, Chile. A town for everybody, with the back dròp of the towering Volcan Villarrica looking over the city, and the lago of the same name at the edge of the small town. Activities are plenty from volcano trekking, summer snowboarding, climbing, hiking through multiple natianal parks, horse back riding, mountain biking. The water sports included kayaking, paddle boat, swimming, parasailing, jet ski, sailing, boating, canyoning, and whitewater rafting. I took part in the exellent rafting, which included some falls, a class V rapid that the guides only ran, and a 20 ft jump into the river to meet up with boats. All in chilly clear water, while'passing through semitropical forest and views ... read more
