I don't want to sound like a creeper, but I've really enjoyed reading your blog as I am preparing to go to France in February! Safe travels back to the US :)

WHAT?!?! - From: La Belgique
Is that mayonnaise on the Belgian fries?! Are the horrible legends true? I hope you informed them that mayonnaise is only an appropriate condiment for sandwiches and artichokes.

The worst way to test the functionality of an electric fence is to wizz on it. I learned that from educational cartoons when I was young. I can't believe people would claim that Ren & Stimpy is inappropriate for kids!

The real travesty is when those ill-informed Americans you speak of decide to run for VP. Did you catch the debates?

I remember that one from Spanish class. Ojala literally means something like "if it is God's will" (catch the 'Allah' in there?). The Spanish language is full of words taken from Arabic because of the Muslim occupaion of Spain (711 - 1492?). Hey, I'm pretty good!

Beautiful! - From: Something About the Cold
Jackie: You are clearly a Hawaii girl! (Those ojos!) But, I am so glad you can appreciate the "dreadful wind and rain" ("Twa Sisters, old weird celtic song), you are truly a prose-poet, and I hope you have some (surely at least mental) photographs of this. I was once in the "Costa-Del-Sol" in February, travelling alone ("Costa-Del-Rain" as one hotel concierge related it, showing slight pride in his mastery of the English). I truly hope you were able to get into some warm place for a coffee and Spanish bread, or at least a "French-seventy-five", after your dangerous exposure to courrants d'aire. Thanks, much love, Dad

don't trust anyone, Dr. Jones - From: Fony French
You know, until I learn French and actually carry on a conversation with a Frenchman, I'm going to go ahead and believe that the entire French language is just an elaborate scheme to confuse Americans. They're just making it up as they go. Dirty frogs. Oh, and your 'fakery at the bakery' comment reminded me of that part in Aladdin during the 'Prince Ali' song where they rhyme bakers with fakirs. Not a good rhyme if you ask me. Your play on words was better.

Is "croque monsieur" what they call Steve Irwin in France? - From: Land of Contrast
Hey, I LIKE the big glass pyramid! Very Guggenheim. Also, I think the desire to photograph your food (or at least, food of great significance) must run in our family. Ha, ha! No, I'm just jealous.

It seems fitting that a fountain ostensibly designed by Tim Burton and Dr. Seuss would be dedicated to Stravinsky. A lot of modern film music sounds like Stravinsky. Love the Magic Schoolbus reference, by the way.

berthillon's - From: Old Paris
when i was there, i had caramel and chocolat sel - there's something about salt and sweet in france. super amazing though. but i dont think i valued berthillon's as much as i should have, probably because it was freezing rain, and rue d'ile saint louis is the longest street in the world with the most gelato shops in the world until you actually get to the right one...

$12.50 - From: C'est Ici L'Empire de la Morte!
That's how much to access the Skydeck at the Sear's Tower. Worth it though. Glad you're still alive. And France too, I guess, after they flipped the switch on that atom smasher near you. No black holes in the area is a good sign. If you see any Manet paintings, think of me, old and serious (though I do giggle when I read French words like Magots and Butte). Stay safe. Go White Sox!!!

Gepetto - From: Macaroons
Jackie: It's too long since you've seen Pinoccio: Gepetto didn't HAVE a wife: just a cat and a goldfish (at least in the cartoon). And, of course, a little wooden boy, later on. Love, your "stickler-for-historical-accuracy" Dad

GO SOX! - From: The Sweet Taste of Success
I am anxiously awaiting the Red Sox blog promised. Everyone will be happy to know that the Red Sox are closing the Gap for the AL East and for all of Major League Baseball. They are only 2.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays (formally the Devil Rays) with a lot of baseball left to be played. So much for the "Ray-volution." As predicted, by yours truly, the Rays are collapsing down the stretch and the Red Sox thrive under these conditions. I see a true "Soxtober" coming. Everyone reading should be proud of Jackie at her first Red Sox game at Fenway Park. She did Red Sox Nation and me very proud. Jackie...I hope you are having fun and being safe (you promised). Talk to you soon.
