Dickie beach - our first stop on our queensland adventure! We arrived a few days before the parentals and settled nicely into our first campsite. Every morning we were awoken by the dawn chorus of what would appear to be a thousand turkeys, kookaburras and some sort of crow! This was usually 5 or 6 in the morning! Happy camping (thumbs up camping friends). The weather was a bit drizzly but this didnt stop us heading to the beach of course and finding lots of sea slugs in a rock pool! I had to dare Jonny to touch one, only to be told later they are quite poisonous - oopsie!! (Jonny is still alive for those wondering). We also had a nightly visit from a friendly possum - happy to eat carrot out of Jana's hand! ... read more

Ok so the nullabor, the nice road trip across Australia from west to east along the bottom of the country in 6 days, where shall I begin!? Firstly we are doing this journey because good old Trev and Paddy are coming out to see us for 3 weeks to travel from Brisbane to Cairns so we plan to be near Brisbane for when they fly in, how nice of us hey, yeah I thought so too! So we are travelling in Tom and Jana's Vauxhall Holden Commodore, she's a beaut and she is also very loaded with all our stuff, the roof rack may aswell be another car on top but no need to worry hey, she'll be right! We set out on Friday 15th march and headed to Toms aunt and uncles Kim and Jims ... read more

After much anticipation we arrived in Byron Bay. Byron was a place we were all looking particularly forward to but unfortunately Cyclone Oswald hit there and we were stuck inside for days! Initially we were meant to camp in our tent but we were given a site underneath a large tree. Having decided this was just a tad precarious we booked into a cabin in the hope we wouldn't drown or get hit by falling trees. A decision well made as the following morning we had a look at our allocated site and the said tree had toppled over! We all counted our blessings that morning! Byron wasnt even hit as bad as some other places but we experienced black outs, flooding and debris all over the roads. The supermarkets even lost power and had to ... read more

Sorry it's been a while guys and girls, been busy with mundane tasks like sunbathing and flying half way across the country following the sun of course! After Port Stephens we headed further up the coast to a town called Port Macquarie, unfortunately the weather wasn't too great so our first day consisted of watching The Hobbit, what else can you do on a rainy day! Actually it rained on and off for the whole 3 days we were there so compared to Port Stephens we didn't do as much as we would have liked, but we still made the most of it and when the sun did come out for only an hour or so we hit the beach with our newly purchased body boards! Obviously learning to surf is on the list but as ... read more

After Sydney we flew down to Melbourne for a week and stayed in a private room in St Kilda. It was absolutely luxury compared to Sydney so we were all very happy. The hostel itself seemed a lot more relaxed with guitars scattered around for anyone to use, a courtyard for bbqs and a nicer bigger kitchen. We spent a few days wandering around St Kilda - imagine 1950's seaside town with lots of cake shops (heaven). It has an almost hippy feel to it and was a good spot to stay for the week. It was also home to the massively overpriced 'Luna park'. It was like Thorpe park but absolutely rubbish and expensive. So we didn't bother naturally! On the Sunday we woke early to head for the St Kilda markets along the beach. ... read more

Hi peeps, We touched down in Sydney on Dec 28th and arrived at our hostel at around midday. It was a bit of a shock to the system to see our dorm room for the first time as there were 6 of us crammed into a tiny room with bunk beds ( give me a wildlife filled treehouse any day) and a shared shower room and toilet. I think Laura found it especially daunting as she was the only girl and let's just say not much privacy! We spent the next couple of days exploring the city and doing the usual touristy sightseeing, opera house, harbour bridge, darling harbour and government house were all ticked off the list. It was quite strange to be stood in front of all these famous sights when you've seen them ... read more

Phuket! Lovely stinky phooey Phuket! It wasn't actually that stinky or trashy at all, not in the rubbish on the floor kind of way anyways. After a quick ferry over from Koh Phi Phi it was a short bus journey to Patong beach, and to the best accomodation we have had so far, and I had my own room! Merry Xmas to me or to Jonny and Laura depending on how you look at it, no doubt I had been annoying them these last couple weeks but I was sure they were missing me, they just never mentioned it! As soon as we arrived we headed to a nice little Italian for lunch, not authentic Thai I know but me and Jonny enjoyed another top notch pizza, they really do make good ones over here lol. ... read more

We spent four amazing days in koh phi phi - the craziest and best island by far. After arriving at the pier following another long boat journey we soon realised that this island has no cars and we were going to have to drag our backpacks to the other side of the island. Low and behold the rain came when we were within 5 minutes of our resort. We arrived absolutely soaking wet and proceeded to the swimming pool bar aided with a couple of changs to numb the pain of another treacherous journey. That evening we headed to the beach for a few drinks and seem to have stumbled across a circus of fire dancers. The infamous slinkys bar held the most amazing fire show where extremely talented Thai guys were doing all sorts with ... read more

Hi all, So we left Koh Phangan at 6 in the morning in yet another torrent of monsoon like rain, on our way to khao sok national park, one of the oldest rainforests in the world. We had to take a boat across to the mainland and a bus ride to get there. In what seems to be the Thai tradition there were a few unscheduled stops along the way and what was supposed to take just over an hour it took 3, but we arrived at our jungle tree house safe and sound. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner and her daughters and our heavy bags were soon being whisked off to our cabin by these very slight Thai girls. To myself and Sean's delight we were informed that " men no ... read more

Koh Phangan! From horrible train journeys to beautiful sunshine to raging thunderstorms to jumping squirrels, it sure has been an adventure! Lets start with the overnight train, 12 hours of pure bliss! I joke, it was hell, words cannot describe how bad, you really have to try it to realise but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone! It was that bad that we have decided to cancel our train back to Bangkok and get a flight instead, lesson learnt! After another 5 hours of travelling via coach and boat we finally made it to Haad Rin in Koh Phangan, home of the full moon party! Unfortunately the next one isn't until Xmas day so we decided we would check out the black moon party which was on....we left as soon as we got there! They were ... read more
