Saturday we went to see an Abbey at Melrose. while the abbey was built first around 1130 AD, the Romans were known to have been in this area (and most of great britian) as far back as 67 AD. Whats left of the abbey was very well presented. Sunday we went to a donkey sanctuary. They currently have 56 rescued donkeys. Johnnie knew it was there and wanted to see it. Eleanor had not been there before. Sunday night we drove to Edinburgh to see the firework presentation. the fire works are set off from the Edinburgh castle and last for an hour. They are timed to accompany a live orchesta. Over 200,000 people watched. The finale was the Halleuliah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. It was magnificant. Monday we went back to Edinburgh and toured around. ... read more

This is what Johnnie & the others got to listen to at the Beatles Week convention: The Beatles Remastered Stereo and Mono Sets will be released on 09.09.09. On Monday, September 7th, Paul, Ringo, Yoko and Olivia are going to be on the CBS Evening News talking about the 09.09.09 releases. On Tuesday, Sept 8th. CBS Evening News is scheduled to run a piece on the releases themselves. It was great to be some of the first people to hear them. When Ernie & Johnnie talked about it she got hugs for saying it was a good day to release it because of John's focus on the number 9. He wrote reflections on it, did drawings and wrote songs about 9.. Some of you asked about Johnnie's last day in Liverpool. After Church she went on ... read more

Thursday we traveled by train to Edinburgh from Liverpool. Eleanor met us there and we hopped the bus to Selkirk. We are at Eleanor's now. Johnnie was tired because she was singing & dancing at the Cavern again last night. There was about 60 people at the Club and a man was singing mostly Beatles songs. What is interesting is the average age of the people present was about 20 years of age. Johnnie felt like a really old Grannie. That again says lots about the music of The Beatles. How well does Eleanor know Johnnie ? She gave her a magazine about the Beatles and a bulletin from the Church with Mass times. We've been having a really good visit. We will send a special photo later. When Johnnie tells you about her last day ... read more

Last night we went to see The Searchers at The Cavern Club. It was the last event of Beatles Week. They sang some of their tunes from the 60's. This afternoon we went to the Liverpool Museum because yesterday on the tour Johnnie was told about a very special recording that is there. It is of the song that John was singing when he fist met Paul at a St.Peter's Church afternoon tea back on July 6, 1957. There was a man there with a reel to reel and he caught many things. Yesterday when the bus stopped at the Church some of it was played for us and we heard from a man who was there that day. We were told that the recording sold for 87,000£. John was singing Elvis' Baby Let's Play House...It ... read more

As of Sunday morning: Boy, this is a non-stop place during the Beatles week. today the trade fair and convention started. the hotel is packed with people looking at the vendor tables, listening to guest speakers and (as usual) bands playing in a number of venues in the hotel. It runs like most conventions, get your package, pick your spreakers & presentations and go. Also today starts the Mathew street festival with 6 stages running concurrently with new performers every hour from 11 am to about 8 pm. at the same time the fringe festival kicks off for 2 days from noon to midnight across 13 venues. the fringe festival is more the latest music and teeny bopper stuff. of course the Beatles week music venues across the city are still going strong with the Cavern ... read more

we are in liverpool. came up on the train. it took 2 hrs, 15 min to go the 173 miles. i thought that was moving pretty fast for a train. on the news the rail system is talking about building a new line that will allow 200 miles per hour so liverpool will be less than an hour and they were saying that it would be fast enough so that you could comute to london from scotland. i quess we are a tad behind in public transportation! first day here we walked down to the docks to see a special presentation set up at the ferry station about john lennon. on the way back we found the cavern club but it was closed. liverpool has about a 10 block section of downtown that is only pedestrian ... read more

well did anyone figure out that the Westminister Church is not 4000 years old. i like to exagerate. the oldest things i saw in london that i remember was some paintings in the national gallery that were painted in 12??. When we were wandering around the 16th century paintings (1500-1599) and i saw some landscapes, i could see what europe looked like when johnnie's fathers family came to canada in the mid 1500's. after johnnie had completed her beatles tour 2 we went to see the queen at buckingham palace. she wasn't home but we wandered around her house looking for her. it is quite the shack! afterwards we wandered down to see big ben and we got there about 2 minutes before 6 so were treated to the 6 bongs. the last day at london ... read more

Its Sunday morning. We had a good flight over but didn't sleep much. that was okay as it was 3 pm london time when we got to our hotel. We are just across the street from part of buckingham place. on our first full day (friday) we had to first visit abbey road, where the beatles recorded lots of their music at a studio there. plus the famous street crossing of which a picture of them crossing is an album cover. everyone has to have their picture taken walking across. later that day we went to see london bridge and london tower and st pauls church. lots of old buildings which are kept in good repair but its all tiny stairs up and down in the towers. saturday we started at westminister abbey. this is a ... read more
