...what a journey it has been... Wow....I am REALLY BAD at this whole blogging thing eh?? At this rate, I'll be home for two months before I update you all again. But well what can I say. This has been an experiance that cannot compare to anything else that I have ever done. I will give you a quick update as to what I have been up too since JUNE! After Youth Day finished...and I DIDN'T die.... we were given a much needed break. I was on vacation for most of July. And I certainaly didn't stand still for one second! My friend Jason and I took off in the direction of Cape town with only our brains and our car to guide us to our next stop (we forgot to bring a map!) Our main ... read more

...and why it almost killed me... Well since my last entry on freedom day I haven't really had a moment of rest. In May we had a huge celebration for something called Candlelight memorial day. This day is to celebrate and remember all those people who have lost their lives to HIV/AIDS. My partner Ongezwa and I held a community event, which unlike all the other events we have had so far was just for the people of Tuba. It was a crazy day. We had originally planned on having the event at the high school with a teacher there doing most of the organization. This was our first and last mistake. We prepared everything, our kids to preform, speeches to be held. Only to be told the day before that the teacher had forgotten to ... read more

Well I must say since it has only been 29 days since my last entry I am definately getting better at this 'blogging' thing. I believe that the last time I wrote we had just celebrated Human Rights Day. And this time we have just finished celebrating 'FREEDOM DAY'. One of the best parts of South Africa is that they have at least one public holiday a month. AND since last month Human Rights Day and Good Friday fell on the same day the government decided to move the day off to this month!! Good luck having that happen in Canada eh??? Our Freedom day event was a huge success. We had preformances from all the local youth action groups (the YAGS as I call them) including four from my community. The first was a drama ... read more

aka SORRY SORRY SORRY EVERYONE Well as you can all see I haven't improved on my ability to communicate when I am overseas. I definately apoligize for that. But at least I can use a somewhat limited access to internet as a meager excuse. But as you all know it is mostly my bad....sooooo sorry! Since I last left you all in London things have changed quite a bit. After meeting some of the other international volunteers in Heathrow (there are 8 of us in total, myself, a guy from the US, four from the UK and two from Australia), we flew into South Africa. The first thing that hit me was the amazing warmth and humidity....and then the smell....I was definately back in Africa. We were met at the airport by our program co-ordinator Artwell...an ... read more

Day One - First Class All The WAY!! I have officially decided that if you are going to fly you had might as well do it in style! My very first experiance with flying 'Executive Class' was a soaring (ha get it??) Success!! From being bumped to the front of every line possible (including customs at heathrow if you can believe it) to being able to recline fully in the plane.....I don't think I can go back to regular flying......which is awesome since that is exactly what I get to do tomorrow! I arrived in London without a single hitch and made my way down into Picadilly Circus to my hostel for the evening. After a little killing of time (who knew hostels have a check in time???) and a quick little nap I was able ... read more
