Corruptionin Paradise
Pole sana JM...these things happen...I am an African Kenyan woman, albeit I am born and raised in Nairobi, so to the coast, I am foreign and a target for conmanship all the time. My kiswahili is Nairobian not coastal, I look well-off and that works against me....The reason u get conned easily at d coast is coz they are polite and pretend to be very well mannered almost to a point that you'd think they were unexposed....they are crafty...my countrymen, but really crafty...sorry about that.....Whatever you do at the coast, do not trust, get a good trusted tour guide...

This is Africa, Jean Marie...Nairobi is a very modern unafrican city though and we somehow enjoy visitors. Am glad u enjoyed urself and found ur way around...u won\'t believe, I fear River Road where u were, so I avoid it and only go there when I must...every Nairobian must go to River Road and down down every once in a while coz sometime, u need to buy something and can only get it down town...The hour long ride from the airport in \"citi hopper\"?...it was early morning and yes the bus fare is 40.00 shillings at that time when Nairobi is not yet awake...

Thank you for your comments!
Salaam aleikum! I read with great pleasure your comments about my writing...I am mixed french/dutch born in spain...so a real european! fantastic that you've converted! and have embraced the religion and way of life that goes with it. I will write more blogs when I get to travel again, for the moment I work a lot with my other passion take a look at www.cirquenova.com or on facebook: cirque nova Ltd. regards Jean-Marie

brilliantly written
I just read your blog here as i was surfing looking for pictures of berbers. Reading I thought you are English, but then I read the comments underneath and think you must be dutch? Your English is excellent, Im English but I live in Holland. I enjoyed your blog immensly, you should write a book really. I have been to marrakech many times, and your blog brought me right back there....thankyou. You wrote just as it is, you wrote with great respect for the moroccan and Islamic culture. I actually converted to islam in 2004 during my first trip to morocco, i have been back 12 times since then. In january I married my moroccan fiance in Ouarzazate, we will of course apply for a visa for him but we plan to live in Morocco in a few years. We just bought a small plot of land in Tamdakht and plan to build a small guest house ( its about 7 km from Ait behaddou). All the very best to you and your friend and keep those wonderful blogs.

Thanks for your comments
hello, I just wonder how you found my blog, but I find it interesting to read! yes indeed I realise that they were all in it, but I am sure only the two boys and the police officers benefited from it! not the rest of the village! when one knows the average wage is 8000 shillings a month! they probably will pay their deposit on their new house on that money. such is life, the problem is...one cannot avoid being gacught up by such people when arriving in a new place! its just too difficult to get rid of all of them as a tourist

sounds scarey...
I was born and raised in kenya and therefore know how rampant corruption is. To stay away from it, you need to find out who to hang out with coz it sound like you hooked up with some very scary people. By now I hope you realised that they were all in it together right? Mansuri, the policemen, everyone!thanks for writing about it though. 30,000 is money in watamu, i'm sure the whole village benefited
