The Carretera Austral is a dirt road that extends for more than 500 miles from Chaiten to Coyhaique. The scenery is stunning and the region some of the wildest countryside I´ve ever passed through. I wish I had been able to stop and take better photos. I took most of these while the van I was riding in was moving. Magnificent Miles! [View Full Entry]

Puerto Montt is an important port city in the south of Chile. Although I didn´t take many photos here, I did catch the sun setting on Volcano Villarica. Puerto Montt is the hub for the exportation of the south of Chile´s contraversial salmon farming industry. Below is a discussion of the salmon farming industry by our neighbors from British Columbia. Valparaiso is a port city that begs you to explore its winding and hilly streets. The backstreets are filled with the small-town spirit of days gone by. I spent one afternoon just roaming the hills. I was impressed by the friendliness of the people. In these backstreets and hills lies a charm only found in small towns. People actually say hello to you in passing. I´ve just spent 3 wonderful days in the port city of Valparaiso. I hope you enjoy the photos. My first day in Valparaiso I took a 2-hour side trip with two gals (American, Finnish) to the beautiful seaside town of Isla Negra. Located at Isla Negra is the house of Pablo Neruda. By doing a travel expose on the life of Pablo Neruda please be clear that I am in no way saying that Communism is the way to freedom.
