No doubt

Thanks
Hi Vourn I am amazed at how many people that I've never met, are reading my blog. I truly thought only my friends would be interested in my ramblings, but I've received some really positive feedback from people. I like to write about my perception and experiences in life, so I'm glad that people enjoy reading my blog also. Have a great day.... Robyn

I agree for the most part.
Change at what cost? As always on the backs of the poor and powerless.

Change at what cost...
Vourn, I agree, and that's why I posted this blog....some change is good, but I don't agree with the treatment of the people that are powerless to fight the all-powerful leaders that don't always have their best interest at heart...

Sad corruption
It's very sad to see all the high profile and govt buildings are new and pristine and ordinary people are being kicked out of their homes due to its location. It's always the ordinary person who looses out and the rich carry on as if nothing. They obviously have blinkers on. Sad but it's the way throughout the world. Now Jo Turner. she must be soooooo busy that she's totally forgotten how to communicate with her Aussie friends. I haven't heard from her since she left Bris and Pam said the same. Oh well. Hope everything is going well for her son's coffee shop anyway. Funny, the other night we wished for heavy rain as the local church bells went off on the quarter the whole night. It was like being back in Rothenberg Germany where the same thing happened to us. It's a totally archaic practice and makes no sense. Not much sleep that night. At the moment I'm looking forward to going home but I'm sure once back I'll start pining for travel after awhile. Once "normal" life sets in again with responsibilities etc I'll probably want to be back here. Oh well, that's life. I'm sure you'll be very sad leaving the school and the kids but do lots of high fives and "you go girl" dancing to make everyone laugh and then run the hell out so you can cry outside. But then smile and pat yourself on the back for having done such a great job. It's one life experience that has made you learn and grow and you've helped others do the same. Then it's onto the next adventure. Hope your cat is being well looked after by your house sitter and you have no worries there. Keep safe and happy. Hugs and kisses. Sylvi xo

Looks fantastic
So glad that you're over your tummy bug and were able to enjoy a lovely week-end at such a beautiful beach location. The photos are amazing. Such beauty. Also happy to hear how much the kids enjoyed the zoo. They will remember it and you all their life. It may even encourage some of them to work in that field. Love your fancy toes - beautiful colours and great design, very tropical. Keep having fun and staying safe. Sylvi xo

Finally caught up
Great to hear all your socializing and trying different food but really hope these new antibiotics do the trick for you. It can't be pleasant for you feeling yuk more often then not. Still, you sound positive and still enjoying your adventure which is great. How did the visit to the zoo go? Or haven't you been yet? And what about getting new eyeliner tattoos or have you put that on hold for later? It's great that you can often get a little pamper with mani and pedis which must make you feel more human. And why not for the price you're paying?! Caught up with Pam from BCL which was lovely. Hope she can get home tomorrow with all this Qantas business going on. Come to think of it, hope it's all sorted by the time we're ready to take off on 30 Nov and for you too if you're flying them. It was so embarrassing hearing Julie Gillard and her slow talking ways being interviewed. We're in Wales at the moment and doing some nice walks as the weather has been better. Do the Cambodians get into Halloween? It's a big thing over here which is strange considering how religious they all are. Bill is dying to get some fireworks which is legal but we might wait for early Nov when it's Guy Faulks night. Must away. Keep looking after yourself and keep having fun. Sylvi xo

What an effort
Great job once again on the Dirty Week-end. What a huge effort you are all putting in. As you say it makes you physically exhausted, but in a good way. Such satisfaction once it's all done. And the drawings are so fantastic. It will make all the difference to the kids for the classroom environment. Looking forward to hearing how your trip to the zoo with the kids goes. I'm sure they'll love it. How is getting your passport back going? Hope all is well on that front. Also hope your gut is better. My eye is still a bit red but feels better so I'm sure all is going well in the healing process. Take care. Hugs and kisses. Sylvi xo ps heard from Libby the other day.

Hey fish pedi lover
If you're having all these fish pedis and loving them, then I must try one too. I've been hesitating because I'm sure I'll laugh my guts out within the first nibble. Plus, do they really get all the dead skin off as well as a usual pedicure? I've brought along a pedi paddle and give my feet a going over occasionally, but it would be lovely to have a professional job done for once whilst over here. You've got a gut bug and I've now got one in my eye. My left eye has been feeling irritated for awhile now but I put it down to the constant winds over here. But 2 days ago it started to go red and today I saw an optometrist who said there was an infection and prescribed some eye drops. They also said I should throw my contact lenses away as they could be harbouring the infection and make it return if worn again. All well and good but these are not disposable lenses and I only got them this year and normally get around 2 years wear out of a pair. So pissed off but will do the right thing as I don't want to risk anything. I may try disposable lenses whilst here though I've tried them several times in Brissy and they don't seem to agree with my eyes. Things never seem clear and I have to constantly blink as if I've got a bubble behind them. Either way it's no big deal as I also have my glasses and prescription sunnies here too. Fantastic about the Californian lady is ready your blog and may come over. You are not only assisting the kids there but also influencing others to follow in your footsteps. Very proud. It's definite. We're returning to Bris on 30 Nov so should be back by 2 Dec instead of 20 Dec. We changed the flight details tonight and it didn't cost us an arm and a leg really. Maybe just a finger :) Must away as our cheese quiche is nearly ready for dinner. Keep having fun, keep the tummy bugs away and any chance Tim is the one?! :) Sylvi xo

Thank you so much for spending your invaluable time helping the needy Cambodians in my homeland!
MY name is Theary and I came to the US in early 1981 after my stowaway from Sihanoukville Port in mid 1980 and ended up in Phillipines. I met my wife and got married here in Minnesota who is also came from Cambodia and we both grew up in Phnom Penh and even went to the same high school but we did not know each other. What a small world. We are planning to take our early retirement next year in Cambodia and spend some times for volunteering. Your blog has been very inspiring us and we can not wait! Out of my 12 family members, only two of us has survived. I still only have a sister who lives in Pursat Province. Theary Minnesota, USA

Mysteries indeed
First on your previous entry - glad you aren't affected by the flooding. We saw on the news how bad things are in Thailand at the moment and the authorities are saying "no problem, all is well, long way to go before we need help". OMG, half the country is under water. On this blog entry - so many things going on there that don't make sense and totally foreign to our way of living. I know you are there to do this good work for a certain length of time and you will obviously be putting up with things that are cheesing you off, which you have to or go mad or be on the first flight home. Funny how we can put up with things when you know there will be an end to it. I know you're also enjoying alot of stuff there too which is great. We are finding that Ireland totally sucks (basically). There are some good bits, some beautiful things, but alot of downers too. They are really quite backward, their economy is shot, their camp sites are not great and I really can't wait to get back to the "mainland" of the UK. We're now in Kilkenny and then onto Dublin before taking the ferry back across. Sorry to whinge when you're putting up with far worse. Must away and work on our blog which I've neglected the past 3 days. Take care, stay safe. Sylvi xo

glad to hear you are settled in
Hi Rob! I found your blog randomly as I was searching for more information on Cambodia, and have read all your entries over the past day. I have loved hearing about your experiences and am impressed by your journey and commitment to help the children there. I'll send you a note. Take care and good luck! erika

Thank you
Good morning Robyn, hope you are having a good time with SCC's students. thank you so much for posting pictures and blog of Cambodia.

I\'m sure every comment/email you get will have this title, but what you are getting up to is so excellent and sounds like it\'s rewarding everyone - you, the kids and the teacher. You will definitely leave a legacy behind and in the future some of these kids of not all will remember you and smile. No doubt about it. You will have touched them in some way that stays with them forever. Really love the animal photos though sad they are in the sanctuary due to maltreatment. All I can say about flooding is that Ireland obviously has a very good drainage system because the entire place would be under water if not. It has basically not stopped raining since we arrived here. At least I don\'t have to think about what to wear each day - rain trousers with thermals underneath. Sometimes I wear a top too :) Good on you for complaining about the pesky clients waiting outside the karaoke bar. What a nightmare. You\'re stronger then me because I wouldn\'t have put up with it for more then one night when you first arrived 3 weeks ago. And yes, time does go fast doesn\'t it ?! Each night when I get into bed I think it seems like I only just got out of it a couple of hours ago, and a whole day has gone past. We are now in Tipperary, a much larger town then we\'ve been in for awhile. The Irish countryside is a bit depressing, especially with constant rain. Some areas are beautiful but there is alot of peat bog country and that\'s quite horrible. We\'ll catch up with a distant cousin of Bill\'s this week and then finally his dad can shut up about us doing it. Hope I can understand what they say because it\'s a bit of a struggle sometimes with their broad accent. Must away. Hope the upset tummy has settled down by now. Hope the toilets are good at least with plenty of paper. Have a great week. Sylvi xo

So beautiful
Just wonderful that something so small from an Aussie can bring so much joy to these people. Just as a quick aside, I heard from Linda from Baby Boomers. She's organizing the Walk for Daniel charity walk in Brisbane this year. It's more for child safety awareness now but it's so nice to know that someone we know is involved in the organization and that funds raised will (hopefully) be put to good use. At least with your work you can see the results immediately. Take care and keep having fun. Sylvi xo

Good to see you
So great to see a photo of you with the kids. It's been ages since I've seen your happy, smilie face. You look happy and definitely sound like you're loving what you do. Cooking classes sound extra yummy too. Sylvi xo

Combodia
The blog on Cambodia was quite an eye opener
2nd October 2011

Hope you're getting lots of mail
Hey Robyn, hope lots of your blog followers are sending you emails and comments to keep you going. It really does make a difference when you get communication from home. It's great following your blog as I now feel more part of your life by reading what you get up to on a regular basis. It's Fiona's birthday today (2nd oct) and I sent her an ecard which I know she's opened. It's also my idiot brother's birthday and I've done the same thing to see if he opens it. For about 3 months I'd heard nothing from him, not even on my birthday. But according to mum he has continued to email and did in fact send a birthday email so I guess he's been using our old tpg email which we've cut off. Must away and check if our laundry is dry, If you're not there the second the machine finishes to open the door, it closes down and everything is locked in there. I am continuing to be challenged with the different machines where ever we go. At least I'm not hand washing so count my blessings. Take care, have fun, be safe and enjoy going back to school (I assume your extra long week-end is coming to an end today?!). Sylvi xo

Only just catching up
Hi Robyn, I've not been able to read your blog for awhile so just catching up. There is no way I could cope with a mouse in the room. Eeeeeeek. Not sure about dirty feet either :) I'd be constantly washing them. We're about to board the ferry for Ireland. Hope to read your other entries soon. Keep safe. Sylvi xo
