We all arose early for a sunrise game drive. Mark decided to embarrass the late waking campers by video taping them and cracking jokes which I can't really recall. After the embarrassment was over we all headed out to the jeeps for our final game drive. We saw a black rhino but from quiet a distance but we were lucky to get a glimpse at something that was so rare. We drove around for a few hours and saw some vulutures, an eagle, and a pride of lions sitting on a high ledge like the true kings of Africa. After we had our fun we packed up our souveigneers and headed to the bus with our bags and I know I would never forget Masai Mara or the beauty its nature had to offer. Another lovely ... read more

Today we woke up bright and early for breakfast which was bacon and eggs. We had an all day game drive and we saw lions, gazelle, elephants, giraffes, zeebras, water buffalo, and one black rhino. After a few hours we stopped for lunch in an open area of the forest. We made sandwhiches and ate them quickly and soon the monkeys came out and ate the scraps we had left. And before I could even say anything a monkey ran behind Ms.Genna, jumped on her and stole her banana peel right out of her hand. I bursted out in laughter when I saw this. That was probably the funniest moment of the Kenya trip. Those monkeys were small but they annoyed the tourists so much and ran around the place like mini cheetahs. After the guards ... read more

Today for once we didn't wake up especially early but we still had to get our stuff ready and set out at the front gate ready for the buses. I stocked up on soda and candy since it was going to be a six hour drive and around nine o'clock we headed out to Masai Mara. We stopped at Nakumat for some snacks and from their drove for four hours and stopped at a curio shop for lunch and they tried to rip me off with an old sword. After awhile we arrived at the Masai Mara camp. We opened up our tents and dropped our stuff in there and headed out to the jeeps for an afternoon game drive. We saw gazelles, lions, cheetahs, thousands of Wildebeest, and many more animals including monkeys. When sunset ... read more

Without a surprise we woke up early yet again and set off to the school to finish the work that we started. I first went ahead and helped out with the cementing in one of the classrooms and then after the job was almost done and my help wasnt needed I decided to go ahead and help paint the second classroom. After a few hours of painting the room we were pretty much done and we decided that our was done here. We packed up our supplies and loaded our stuff onto the bus and gave the remainder of the charity money towards the school's fund for their Science Labratory and then we set back off to camp. We took down our tents at camp and loaded our things onto the bus with Tom and left ... read more

Today first thing in the morning we had breakfast, made our lunches, got our work supplies ready, then set off in the matatoo (bus). One thing I noticed though is that the people of the village were smiling at us and telling us "good job" and other signs of gratitude. We arrived at the school half an hour later and saw that the workers we hired had already started working on the school so we busily set our bags aside and cast into the work with them. I first went ahead and started mixing cement with the other Kenyans and we did this for a few hours and we mixed the cement then shoveled to other people who splatted it onto the wall. Afterwards I then switched jobs and started shoveling dry cement into a rolling ... read more

Today wasnt really an exciting day of our expedition of Kenya. We woke up early in the morning and readied our day and ruck sacks. We got into the bus and began our journey to Sagana and the school we would help restablish. We spent six hours in the bus travelling and at one point my bus broke down and we had to stop to get the engine cooled down. We arrived at our new camp which was percariously perched near the school. Ms.Genna said that it would be a half hour walk to the school but after 2 and a half hours of walking and nagging we figured she was a little off. We made it to the school and it wasn't in horrible shape but it still needed a lot of work to be ... read more

Today we were woken up at four in the morning. I was not exactly happy or excited about being woken up this early but we had to if we wanted to get off this mountain in time to keep the schedule on track. We all got up heavy headed and sat down and tried to drink a cup of tea. We all suited up for the harsh cold elements outside and started our trek to the summit. After twenty minutes of walking, I felt weak and I started to throw up. It turns out I had altitude sickness but I pushed on even though I felt like I was about to collapse from exhaustion. Some of us became so tired and honestly, I thought I was going to snap from craziness from being sick and overly ... read more

Today we rose early in the morning once again but this time it was to something beautiful. It was snowing outside and a white beautiful blanket had already covered the ground. This was the first time in my life that I had every since snow and this showed me the diversity and beauty of Kenya's landscape and Mt.Kenya has shown me many different types of animals the farther we have gone up it, the more diverse amount of animals we began to see. Today's trekk was probably the most dangerous, difficult, tiring, and challenging hike yet. We started to hike and we saw large hills that were covered in unstable little pebbles. We hiked up these paths and we had to watch our every step. Even while doing this the path we had to take was ... read more

I suddenly woke up in shock of a dream I just had. I had dreamt someone had just poured a bucket of water over my head. It had all seemed so real until I realized I was actually drenched in water from torso to my legs and I was freezing cold and shivered in pain of the cold. Unfortunately I later realized there was a very small opening from my side of the tent door and it was snowing so the snow probably got onto me and melted on my warm body so that had explained why I was shivering cold. I couldnt sleep from then so I changed out of my wet thermals and got dressed so I went inside the hut to see if I could get something to eat. After we all had ... read more

We rose in the early morn yet again and as I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes I realizied the air was thinner and the air was colder. I relaizied that we were getting closer and closer to the top of the mountain. We left the noisy Med. Station with high hopes of getting to the top of Mt.Kenya. We walked through more dense forest like scenery and we did this for several hours or more. We saw manymany types of animals like Water buffalos, monkeys, and we some more elephant tracks. The forest of Mt.Kenya was beautiful, so many plants and trees, all so full of life. Everything was beautiful, even the view of the actual mountain was pretty nice too. When we came across the swamp area that was tricky to get through ... read more
