The border crossing into Cambodia wasn't the most fluent process and caused an unwanted hassle. Straight away we were bombarded with scams of Cambodians trying to make some quick cash at our expense. We ended up having to get a taxi from the border to Siem Reap as the bus waiting for us drove at approximately 10mph. Our bus guide also advised us to change Thailand money to Cambodian money and not the commonly used US dollar. This again caused us to lose out by about $50. Our Taxi driver then stopped outside of Siem Reap and transfered us into a Tuk Tuk who he paid and said would drive us through the busy town centre to our hostel for free. On our arrival the Tuk Tuk driver tried to demand money, so we retreated to ... read more

We were on a speed boat leaving Malaysia and heading for Koh Lipe- Thailand. The weather was hot and sunny and looking perfect for a week on the west coast islands. We arrived in Koh Lipe with no accommodation so on advice from various friends we walked across the island to Sunset beach. This was a bad start! We got lost making the 10min walk take about 40mins with all our luggage. Once we got there we then discovered that all the accommodation was booked up. Although we didn't think it at the time, this was actually a blessing in disguise. The beach on Sunset is not great, the sea is full of rocks and coral meaning you cant walk in it and there is only 1 restaurant. By walking back to the main beach (Pattaya) ... read more

We left the humid heat of Cairns and arrived in Singapore with it even more extreme! However we were glad to finally be in Asia for the real cultural backpacking experience. We had just 2 nights in Singapore as we needed to be in Kuala Lumpur in just 4 days to meet Mark (Pauls big bro). Having explored the rich city, filled with its designer shopping malls and resturants, on our day of arrival; on our first and only full day we decided to take a trip to Singapore Zoo followed by the worlds only night zoo! This proved to be an absolute brilliant day, Singapore Zoo has on offer everything that you would want to see and more. The zoo is an open plan concept. The animals are kept in spacious, landscaped enclosures, separated from ... read more

Due to Australia still being busy after new yrs, Byron bay accomodation was fully booked, for this reason we continued north a couple of hours to Surfers Paradise. This is a beautiful long stretch of beach and as suggested by the name was perfect conditions for surfing; however, this sadly meant that it was also very windy and made sunbathing a challenge. After 2 nights here accomodation had become available in Byron, so we headed back for 2 days in this popular spot. On arrival we could see why it is so popular, it has a great vibe, great beaches and great surf. As we had a limited stay we made sure we didn't spend our whole time on the beach. On the second day we took a walk along the coast to the most easterly ... read more

After and intense schedule in NZ, we arrived in St Kilda, Melbourne, Australia in need of some time out. Our intentions were to stay here for 6 days, however we ended up staying 10. This was partly due to our lazyness and partly down to the fact it was proving impossible to get accomodation and transport to Sydney for new years eve! On our first day in St Kilda we spent the day checking out the area of this trendy, vibrant town. We took a stroll down to the beach and to our suprise there was a volley ball competition in full flow, with some of Australias top olympic players involved. That night we headed to bed early in preparation for the highlight of the whole trip; a tour of the 'Neighbours' set! Nick and Paul ... read more

Once we had found Mike, we were keen to impress him with all our knowledge of New Zealand, however to our astonishment he seemed to know more than us. Nick and Paul didn't arrive in Wellington till around 8pm so Mike had spent all day absorbing knowledge in the Te Papa Museum. After a brief stopover in Wellington we got on the Ferry and headed to the south island. The ferry arrived in Picton and then we jumped back on the bus and made our way to Nelson. Nelson again was quite a chilled out stop and we past our time with a spot of beer tasting. From Nelson we made our way down the west coast to a place called Westport. Along the way we stopped at Buller Adventure Tours for a high speed ride ... read more

'Sweet as bro', we arrived in NZ and all was good. Our first destination was Aukland for 2 nights, we checked in, ate pizza and pretty much just planned our 'Kiwi experience' for 2 days. From Aukland we jumped on the bright green kiwi bus and headed north to Paihia (Bay of Islands), it felt a little bit like Devon but really sunny! The bus ride was fun and we were already feeling good vibes about everything. That day we were about to attempt to cook our first meal in 2 months, until a Norweigen girl called Ellen walked into the room. She had been fishing and taken her catch to the 'fish and chip shop' to be battered and cooked. To our delight she turned to us and begged us to help her eat her ... read more

We arrived on Fiji and took the advice of various people not to waste too much of our time on the main land and intead head straight out to the islands. After just one night on the main land we caught the 'Awesome Adventures' boat to Manta Ray island. This idyllic island resort was occupied by just 50 guests and had a sunrise beach and a sunset beach within just a 2 minute walk of each other. We were lucky here, not only because we were on a Fijian island in perfect sun, but because straight away at dinner we made friends with our own little group of about 8 people. After dinner we took our drinks down to the beach and experienced one of the funniest moment of all our lives. After multiple drinks and ... read more

Typical, so much for English speaking, landed in LA only to get on a shuttle bus driven by a Mexican and with only Mexican passengers! Infact it is predicted that in 10yrs California will have a population of 50% Mexicans, crazy. We checked into our hostel (USA hostels Hollywood) at 1am and went straight to bed. In the morning we woke early to find ourselves in an intense heat and it wasn't the forrest fires. LA was experincing some high temperatures and perfectly clear skies, this was a good start for our stay. Taking advantage we decided to take a walking tour around Beverley Hills to try and spot some stars. All we really spotted were some preety impressive gates and big green bushes. We did however manage to catch a glance of Elvis's and Sinatra's ... read more
