In 1985 I set out to see the world. I traveled to Africa, Europe and Asia. It was a wonderful adventure. After, I settled into a conventional way of life. During that time, I worked as a hairstylist in Hollywood California while I pursued a writing career. I wrote several screenplays and published two books, the first of which, The Soul of Adventure, detailed my experience in traveling in Africa. The second book became a novel, an existential drama about a man looking to find the meaning of his life. It had always been a dream of mine to write full time. To live in California six months out of the year and live abroad in various countries while writing the other six. Years later while living a happy and full life I made a move and got into the real-estate game and became owner and co owner of land and homes. With my hairstyling business going quite well, the future appeared to be monetarily lucrative to carry out my "six months home / six months abroad, plan. But the bubble burst and the housing market crashed and I knew this would take years to recover. I stayed the course for the next few years but was unable to shake the growing and festering wondering that I could miss out on an opportunity to see, after cutting hair for the past 31 years, what other unleashed callings lingered deep within for a chance to be expressed. I was in need of change in my career and personal life and saw my yearning desire to experience more adventures abroad slowly slipping away. And then one day I had an epiphany and made the decision to not give up on the dream. After spending only a few days of letting it swirl around in my brain and realized that it was still possible, I put aside any doubt and began to deconstruct my life and put into action the needed steps to make the dream possible. In the end, at the age of 50, I gave away/donated almost everything I owned, quit my job and walked away.
