Gnome and Monkey

Nicola and Anton, aka Monkey and Gnome regularly like to sling on their rucksacks, leave the bright city lights of London, and explore. They like seeing new places and making lots of new friends. They will be setting off on the trail again this Wednesday - yippee!! Nicola is wondering how many pairs of shoes she can get away with hiding away in her rucksack. Anton is resigning himself, as usual, to the fact that he will probably end up going through her rucksack, taking them out, then when she sneaks them back in, end up carrying most of her stuff....!

Hi there, This will be the last entry on our travelblog (weep) as the trip has sadly reached it's conclusion. The story picks up from Borneo. After we left the land of the forest man (orangutan), we headed to Indonesia - an archipelago of 100's (maybe 1000's - am not really sure) of islands. Indonesia is right in the Pacific Ring of Fire. It is the Ring of Fire. Basically these are islands formed from huge volcanic eruptions. This is the home of Krakatau, whose eruption was so mammoth, that it blew itself apart, and teh bang echoed around the world for 9 days. Really. Anyway, enough dramatic eulogising about volcanoes for now - we will come back to them later. We headed to Bali, home of one of the biggest surf breaks in the world, ... read more

Hi there. So here is the 2nd part of our Mongolian adventure...Apologies for the huge delay - but this website crashed, so we lost our photos and new entries we made - boo!! Anyway..... We set off for our big desert adventure in an old, rusty Russian van. Accompanying us was our trusty driver Jigmee, our guide Ortgoo and the tour owner's mother, known simply to everyone as 'Mama', who was along for the ride, because (like the others) was from the Gobi and fancied catching up with some old friends. Before I begin, some fact about the Gobi: It is the size of France (roughly) There are 0.3 people per square km It is dusty and sandy and desert-like in parts There is also lush green-ness, and an ice gorge There are NO PAVED ROADS ... read more

Hello! Again, this is really delayed, and you are getting daily reports, because the stupid website crashed. Anyway, We arrived in Singapore for 3 days of having showers every day (running water - yay!), sleeping (Mongolia was exhausting!), drinking (we met up with Simon and other BarCappers out in Singapore at the mo), and, predictably, eating. Going from a desert and sleeping in felt tents, to a terribly smart hotel (we got upgraded to a posh penthouse room for no apparent reason - our bedraggled state clearly pulled at the hotel manager's heart strings), was a bit of a culture shock, but we managed it well, I think! Singapore was great - but having lived there and visited several times, there was not a lot of sightseeing to be done. So we did all the things ... read more

- NOTE: The China and Mongolia entries have already been posted, and you have probably already read them (if not, why not??!! - just kidding). Basically the website crashed and lost everybody's travelblogs - rubbish!! Hence the delay in getting the rest of our travel blogs out. Very annoyed. So the photos from Beijing and Mongolia part 1 are lost, and it will take us forever to upload them again, so no photos for these entries - but photos for all the rest -so read them if you have the time! Thanks, Nic and Anton xxxx Who knows what the capital of Mongolia is? Neither did we. It's one of those places you rarely think about, like Zanzibar, or Bhutan, unless you get asked a pub quiz question about it, and it's just another one on ... read more
