Hi all, just a quick update from the last few days, it's not been quite as action packed as the North, the South is a lot more chilled and most of the activities revolve around the gorgeous beaches and scenery. The flights to Phuket were short and sweet. I slept (of course, much to glen's growing annoyance :-\ ) and we arrived in Phuket about 4. Our hotel, despite being cheap was lovely, and such a big difference from the tiny crappy room without proper windows from Chiang Mai! We quickly changed and then headed down to check out the beaches, which were about a minute walk from our place. We were absolutely stunned by how beautiful they were and how happy we were to be in the sun and sea! :-D We grabbed a late ... read more

So we woke up today on Jo's bday both not feeling very well at all! Had a bit of a bad head (i suspect the alcohol a little bit) but had really bad stomachs, possibly from all the disgusting river water we drank. So we really didnt feel up to doing much. We had a full day of thai cookery booked though so we headed off. Firstly they took us to a market to buy our produce. This was possibly the worst idea ever!!! The market was hurrendous, it absolutely stunk of wet dog and off fish. I really struggled to keep from vomiting as did Jo. The little thai woman, named "Meow, like the cat, meow, meow" lol who was really bizarre showed us about making us take in all these horrible smells and telling ... read more

After leaving the waterfall we made our way back towards the elephant camp where next to it is the bamboo rafting place. We were told to leave all our belongings in the bus and not to wear our shoes, we thought this might have been a bit much as we only expected to get our feet a little wet. We were very wrong! The bamboo rafts were approximately 10-12 meters long and tied together with, what appeared to be, old cut up bike tires! Our little Thai guys shot them in the water and we went 5 per raft with the Thai guy leading at the front steering us with a large piece of bamboo he stuck in to the water and one of us at the back steering from there in the same fashion. The ... read more

Just had the most amazing day ever! We booked a one day trek up to the mountains which lasted from 8:30 til 6 and managed to cram so many unbelievable things in! We got a minibus with 6 others up to the mountains of chang mai, there was an Austrian couple who were pretty geeky, a cool Australian couple and some really nice girls from england. One of the English girls was a teacher in bangkok and the other had been traveling all over the world for 10 months so we had loads to talk about. It took about an hour to get up to our first stop which was a trek through the jungle up to a mong village (not as in mongoloids it was just their tribes name) The village was so deprived, it ... read more

Hi All, arrived in Chiang Mai this morning at about 6 our time. The ''VIP'' bus was so far from VIP, it was probably the rockiest ride ever and resembled a ferry on wheels, pretty much felt sick the entire 11hours, especially when we stopped at a 'service station' where the food choices were various pieces of meat in soup, eggs floating in gravy, or a whole leg of some unidentified animal. Glen and I decided to go to the shop and opted for some crisps and biscuits... very adventurous. :-) We tried to get some sleep, but it was just so hard cos we were being thrown about and we had a fat little baldie Thai man sat next to us who made the weirdest and loudest noises in his sleep, waking us up every ... read more

Hi everyone, we are just finishing off our 3rd day in bangkok. Its about 5:15pm here, weather is quite overcast but really warm!! We have just been to McDonalds for some good trustworthy food because Jo is feeling a bit unwell, bit feverish and sore throat. We are setting off at 7pm on the 'VIP' bus to Chang Mai in the north which should take us 11 hours. The coach is meant to have bed-like seats and is meant to be luxurious, we won't hold our breath. The past 3 days have been amazing, on our first day, after the ridiculously long journey, we arrived at about 12 noon. We grabbed a few hours sleep because i only got about 2 hrs all journey, then headed out to meet with the annoyingly persistent travel agent. We ... read more
