Saturday We woke to clear blue skies and so set off for a bit of a walk (before we had to check out at 12.00), we popped into a café in the city centre for a bacon sandwich, coffee and orange juice before heading past the St Enoch centre to the Clyde. We walked along the Clyde for a bit and saw the science centre and new pedestrian bridge and then crossed beneath the Kingston Bridge and then back up towards the hotel to check out. We then drove towards the river again (catching sight of loads of people heading to the world pipe band championships on Glasgow Green) and then made the decision to head out of the city. We headed out towards the coast, and stopped at the Jolly Friar by Lochwinnoch for lunch ... read more

Thursday We were up early, as tends to be the case with camping, and struck the tent and packed it away. After a quick freshen up we drove into Portree where we stopped off at the bakers to pick up coffee and a bacon sandwich for breakfast, and a couple of fruit scones for later. We had decided to get the ferry from Armadale (at the southern tip of skye) back to Mallaig. It only takes about half an hour and cut out having to drive a longer route back the way that we had already seen. So we decided to head over to the western coast of the island and drive south to see what we could see. There was not much doing on the coast, and the tourist information was shut so we ... read more

Monday After a full Scottish breakfast, cooked by Liz after dropping Finn at nursery, we packed the car and headed for the M8. After skirting around Glasgow we crossed the Erskine Bridge and saw the Waverley paddling down the Clyde towards Greenock. Moving on we had a very quick trip into Lomond Shores, where we popped into Hawkshead and Misty Glen (the little jewellery shop), and to the tourist information office. (where surprise surprise we picked up some leaflets!!) We drove on up the western shore of the Loch, stopping in a couple of places for photos and a spot of stone skimming. (Toby is a lot better at that than me!) It had been arranged that we would meet Mum and Dad for lunch, and after a couple of phone calls through the morning plotting ... read more

SUNDAY - Heading North After partying in Birmingham on Saturday night, we rose at about 8 for a cooked breakfast and then picked up the car and got on the M6 (eventually after a couple of diversions) to head north. After running into heavy rain as we crossed the border we arrived in Kilmarnock in sunshine. Finn was asleep, but woke shortly after we arrived and after a very short shy period, was keen to get to know the visitors and tell them all about what he had been up to (a trip to soft play in the morning and play hoovering and watching TV). We had refreshments, and then headed over to Deans Park where there are animals (and where Finn is a regular visitor!!). We wandered around (slowly, as Liz is on crutches) and ... read more
