Goodbye to the mountains Hello my dear,
You have truly fallen in love with this place. You take such joy in all parts--people, scenery food, work. You have always been very fit, but I get the idea that you now have new sinewy muscles and impressive insurance. What a gift of hard work will give. Glad a new volunteer came from the Amazon to tempt you away. Hopefully it helped moving on just a tiny bit easier. Can't wait to hear the next installment. With all my love and hugs to you and Jake

Cusco Easter, what a fabulous time to be there. I hadn't thought of that. seems you got to see and experience some pretty unique things. Your photos continue to fill me with awe.
much love always

Wow, the beauty of the place sounds and looks so compelling. You'll no doubt be sad to leave these mountains and this work and these people, but that sadness will be offset by seeing jake again. Thank you for such beautiful descriptions of your marvelous adventure and experiences. with all my love Jxo

Hello my adventurer cuz,
I found your description of the schools and the educations system really interesting. Its not just a catchphrase to say education is important for a culture and a society. What you describe is so different from Costa Rica which for years has put a lot of effort and funds into education giving them one of the highest literacy rates in Central America.....so many more possibilities for their children's futures. It is not an easy problem to fix either....so many layers to address.
love you muchly Jxo
machete work Hi my dear,
Who knew you would have an affinity for machete work. It sounds faery strenuous. You were strong before you left but expect Amazon Woman will return home with all the climbing and swinging. There is something satisfying about working where you can see the results immediately and obviously ( unlike teaching which takes time to see the seeds of your work come to bloom). You must be learning a lot about this Incan culture. Do you ever wonder how they might have progressed and turned out if they hadn't been wiped out.
love you to bits. Jxo
Your weekend break Hi my dear,
Your descriptions and pictures show and tell of a very spectacular and magical place. Its almost as if you have been sucked back in time or at least to a place much further away from here than miles or kilometers can reflect. You were right to leave the best for the last.......I read on with much love J xoxo
Hi, Gill! Peru sounds like a treasure; your blog entries are a joy to read and the photos are amazing. You missed out on another 4" of snow here, just after we thought the snow was gone for good.
However, we are being promised spring weather starting today. xxx, Dee
The work begins Hi my dear,
Your pictures show the surrounding land as stunningly beautiful and lush. Wow talk about a cultural immersion for you. Glad the people you are with are interesting--that always makes a difference. The work too sounds interesting especially since it is to be varied. Keep enjoying every moment.
Looking forward to your next installment...what a trip!!! all my love J xoxoxo
Lovely Lima Sounds like you made 2 excellent choices in your tours. Both the cycling and the gastronomic tours would get you into parts and bits of the city you might have missed on your own, for sure. Now the archeology will be completely different again.
David's birthday was a success. Way too much food but all very scrumptious. % eople told me they were bringing food---and 30 more brought yummies.
enjoy the mountains, and remember to TAKE IT EASY for the first few day.
much love

Hello from home Gilly - woking with the Massai, it all sounds too amazing, imagine listing african animals like the names of dogs. Good on you and Jacob. I''m sorry we won't get to see him on your turn around week. Take care and thanks for the opportunity of vicarious travelling! J
Settling in Oh my dears, It all sounds so remarkably amazing.Every sight, smell action and custom all new and to incorporated into you experiences and understanding of a culture so different from here. It must give you pause to feel how privileged we are. I know that sense has stayed with me after visiting the townships in SA. This will be an experience that will be part of who you are going forward. what a unbelievable time for Jacob, too. It sounds like you are learning so much as well. Having a chance to see some of the cultural things beyond the school is a great bonus.
Thinking of you both with much love

Great pics Gilly - I've missed your blogs and great to see pics from Saskatchewan - they are every bit as intriguing as some taken from afar. I'm glad you and Jacob are together again. Also glad it was you making the 55 hour flight. It would have killed me. Nice to hear your optimism about the volunteer work. Hope you enjoy it. Jean
The long journey Hello my dears,
55hours!!! You are amazing and you survived it. There was an old movie called Around the World in 90 Days. If you had kept going in the same direction you might have made it around the world in 90 hours! You will be settling into a bit of a routine by now and will have met the kids at the school. How many have you fallen in love with?
All is fine and dandy here. Coldest week on record for Vancouver in Feb. It was wonderful---like a very mild Sask. time with temp of -8 and lots of sun. All good except for all the tiny plants that thought it was spring and now wish they could suck themselves back into the ground. Talked to Jacquie who was on her way to their cabin. Unfortunately too cold to cross country ski. Bet you are nice and toasty.
Off to meet PKPJ for bowling.
thinking of you with much love
