Gary & Denise's journey of India
Shame man can only see other countries' poverty - having lived in India, England, Canada, USA, Spain and Taiwan - and I mean 'lived' not vacationing in these countries. I have found more poverty in England than in India. What you experienced in India is a corrupt governement - this government has still to learn the Western government way to cover their corruptness. Quoting: "Yes, Calcutta is a filthy city - her filth is EXTERIOR - and can be washed off with soap and water - BUT - the Western countires' flith is INTERIOR - and no amount of soap and water will ever wash off their inner filth.

Trams in Kolkata
Yes, Kolkata maybe the only city in India to have trams AT PRESENT! Mumbai also had trams once upon a time, double-decker trams too, but these were discarded because they were causing too many traffic disruptions.

paradise on earth
I too have visited Auchlochan from Manchester on many occasions over the years visiting family who lived there, I have stayed on the barge on several occasions and had great fun with the swans knocking on the window for food. unfortunately the barge is not rented out any more. I have bought flowers and plants from the gardens which were beautiful and still exist years later in my garden. I have also stayed at Nessenvale within the grounds and been treated as one of the family, or should I say (royalty)the staff @ service is excellent! I have stayed in most of the surrounding B & BS and also Kerse farm at the roundabout in Lesmahagow and have been made very welcome and enjoyed every one of them. The golf club has been a good place to visit for an evening meal where the staff are brilliant, if what you want is not on the menu the staff will try to accommodate your choice. However as I have watched Auchlochan grow and expand over the years I feel that it has a special place in my heart, it is stunning, I will be going back to see relations before end of March when the snow clears, cant wait.

Lake Saiful Mulook - No comparison
Spend a full moon night or a lovely dawn. There is no place that can match the scenic beauty of this magical lake. The water is more than crystal clear fed by mountain glaciers. The lake is accessible through May to September and is frozen during winters.

Camilo Cienfuegos
The uniformed man beside Che Guevara is Camilo Cienfuegos, one of the commanders of the rebel army of Fidel Castro. He disappeared shortly after Castro's victory under unclear circumstances. They say he died in a plane crash but his body was never found.

I just stumbled on your blog following a search for 'Auchlochan' on google. I am a pilot and fly into Glasgow on a daily basis, on numerous occasions i have looked down at this oasis in the hills but couldn't quite place it. the last time i flew over i had the sense to check the co-ordinates from the gps and with a little help from google earth found the place instantly. I'm not exactly sure what i was expecting or hoping for but having read a little about the place and your peice i hope it is sometime before i visit on foot. hope your parents are happy, it really does look like a beautiful spot. Richard
