Well we spoiled ourselves and went to the zoo in Calgary. We choose Sunday for the buffet brunch that they put on. And boy did we make a good choice it was the best meal we have had since we left home. It even had a chocolate fountain which you can dip the fresh strawberries in. However at minus three for the day and snowing it was a freezing day to be at the zoo. The Australian area was really weird. They had kangaroos in a snow filled enclosure and cane toads in their own huge really nice enclosure. ... read more

Well we ended up in the wild wild west. We arrived in Brooks in Southern Alberta, the prairies. We lived in a little house filled with people. There was one bathroom for the nine of us. So pretty crazy to say the least. ... read more

Snowboarding was by far the best thing that we’ve done since we arrived, well second best compared to shooting the guns. Surprisingly, I didn’t take that long before I picked it up and could go down the hills at a steady pace, thanks to jo and her lessons. I even had a go at doing a jump (still sore) I’ve decided to buy a snowboard as soon as I can so I can show my brother up when I get home hehe. A trip to New Zealand is definitely on the cards when we get home. ... read more

For George’s birthday we ended up driving two hours, all the way over the other side of the island to take a plane trip over the volcanos. The pamphlet showed the plane flying over the crater with erupting lava flying in the air just missing the plane, similar to the picture below. However our flight wasn’t exactly like that. Firstly, we couldn’t find the place were the plane left from. We were stupidly looking at the airport, when we rang up we were informed that we were actually looking for a garage out the back of the airport. The pilot was patiently waiting for us, we were actually his only flight for the day. We flew over the waterfalls before heading on to the volcano. Unfortunately by the time we got to volcanos George was ... read more

On our second day on the big island we went for another big drive. We went to the black sand beach, which was pretty surreal. We then headed to the Volcano national park. Driving around was pretty cool, there was steam rising from the ground and lava flows everywhere. We eventually made our way to the active area. Under the old lava flows there are lava tunnels which the molten rock flows along till it meets the ocean. We arrived just at sunset which was perfect as it is hard to see the red glow during the day. After the sunset there was even a red glow in the sky and lava seemed to come out from everywhere. Although it was pretty cool, you really don’t get as close or see as much active lava ... read more

On the Big Island we hired a car and explored with heaps of driving. The island was so different to Oa’hu. It was cool, grassy with heaps of cattle ranchers. We went through small towns and eventually came to a lookout over Waipio Valley which came complete with eucalyptus trees. ... read more

We checked out the beach at Waikiki. One of the locals informed us that the beach was so dirty because the sewerage was pumped straight out into it. The beach was alright, no waves, a bit of rubbish but absolutely littered with people. There were Japanese doing there exercisers before entering the water, there were plastic American prancing around in their miniature bathers with their leather like skin, there were the larger American who struggled to fit into their bathers and offcourse there was heaps of people attempting to surf, learning to surf or surfing on the pathetic waves. As seen by the picture there really wasn’t much surf in Waikiki. ... read more
