After going to Cape Tribulation and Port Mcquarie we decided to have a couple of days just relaxing. I wasn’t feeling very well either as my cold was slowly getting worse. But on our first night back Nick won a prize in the weekly pool competition to go on a jungle swing. So the next day we got picked up from our hostel and taken to the rainforest where there was a bungy site. Basically Nick and a friend had to put in body harnesses and were then winched up into the rainforest where they then had to pull a rope [View Full Entry]

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Well we’re slowly coming to the end of our Australian adventure with only 6 days until we fly back to Kuala Lumpur for a second stint in Asia. Hope you all had a good xmas and new year and here’s an update of what we got up to over the festive season. After Hervey Bay we headed up the coast again to Agnes Water and the Town of 1770 named after the year Captain Cook landed in the area. The bus took about 4hrs and we all wore our xmas hats to get into the spirit of things. [View Full Entry]

Hello again and MERRY XMAS! It doesn’t seem like xmas over here, it’s just so hot! There also aren’t many xmas decorations about or much xmas shopping to do. So I left you the day before Nick’s birthday which was quite a while ago now but as per usual the Australian internet has been less than adequate where we’ve been recently. So here goes: To start Nicks birthday off he treated himself to a fry up of eggs, bacon, sausages, beans and hash browns but because we were used to just having muesli we were all absolutely stuffed and could only [View Full Entry]

Fraser Island is the biggest sand island in the world and is a must-do on the backpacker trail where you can either do a self-drive or a guided tour. After speaking to the travel agent we decided to do a guided tour as at this time of year the sand is really soft and it would be a miracle if you didn’t get stuck at some point and have to dig your way out in a self-drive vehicle. The guided tour on the other hand is done in much bigger vans which very rarely get stuck and you get the added [View Full Entry]

Well, I’m afraid this might be a rather long blog due to the poor standards of Australian internet. We have finally been able to get some wi-fi to be able to post pictures and the blog so here’s your latest update: When we woke up to leave Adelaide at 5.30am we were tired but quite glad to be carrying on with our journey, and even more glad when we looked out to see that it was raining quite heavily. It took us 26hrs to get from Adelaide to Sydney but quite a lot of that was spent sleeping and watching films [View Full Entry]

As part of my birthday weekend Penny organized for us to stay in a caravan in Moontah for a night so that Nick and I got to see some more of the area. We had planned to leave Adelaide relatively early to make the most of the day but Penny and I went to the market to get some supplies which took longer than expected and we ended up leaving around 12o’clock. The drive was really nice with loads of flat wheat fields going off into the distance. At one point there were some massive metal statues on the side of [View Full Entry]

After leaving Phillip Island we decided to stay in St Kilda a few minutes away from Melbourne city centre. Nick thought he’d seen a hostel last time we’d gone to St Kilda so we walked down the street from the tram stop only to find he was mistaken. It took ages to find a hostel as it was the week of the Melbourne cup and they were all full. We eventually found one for $40 a night, which was really cheap. As always really cheap meant it wasn’t the cleanest of places and was in the dodgy area of town. Whilst [View Full Entry]

Our flight from Auckland to Melbourne went without a hitch, although I was a little worried about some shells I had in my bag when we went through the biosecurity checks. We paid $16 each to get the shuttle bus in to Melbourne which would then take us to our hostel. We decided to stay at The Greenhouse backpackers which was right in the centre of town and had loads of extras thrown in with your room. Our dorm only had 5 beds as well which was good as it meant less chance of noisy people coming in and out of [View Full Entry]

We weren’t really sure where to go in Northland so we ended up in Whangarei where we managed to find a really nice campsite right next to Whangarei Falls outside the main town. When we checked in the lady showed us around all the facilities and walked us to our pitch. Once we’d parked up we walked to Whangarei Falls, we’d seen so many waterfalls I thought they’d be disappointing but they were really pretty. For some reason I mentioned to Nick it might be nice to go for a jog down past the waterfall to the other walking tracks, what [View Full Entry]

Hello again, its time for your next installment of our eventful life! Whilst in Kaikoura we went for a walk around the town, looking in all the souvenir shops, and around the coast where we saw our second lot of seals. This time there were loads of seal pups as well which were coming quite close to us. The drive from Kaikoura to Blenheim was one of the best so far, the sun was shining and we were driving right next to the sea with the waves crashing against the rocky coast. Just outside of Kaikoura Nick noticed a couple of [View Full Entry]
