Experience Y'know I've always wanted to travel in Ecuador, but holy crap. Were you alone (ie only American?) Man, even when I got robbed in Valladolid I didn't even get that much taken (unless you add the camera) but seriously that is a bunch hypocritical BS. I haven't been following you journal super carefully, but when I'm searching for what I've been missing, I pop in a bit. When you get back, another gathering with the Spain group might do you some good ;) See you 'round, Rachel Rizzle.
WOW - thanks Thanks for the detailed report. I was aware of the race from the ex-pats living in Lima but didnt know how it turned out. Any chance for some pics? thanks - TE AMO PERU!
Peruvian connection Hey Bryan, I have enjoyed following your adventures. My friend Simonie's in-laws live in Peru so depending on how long you will be there or where in Peru you will be, let me know and if need be I can get you some local contacts! They are a great family and I am sure they would welcome you with open arms. Take care, and enjoy the adventure!
... that definitely shouldn't have happened. and btw the amount you payed as a bribe is EXORBITANT. honestly, i would contact an authority of some sort, because i know the Andean governments are trying to crack down on corruption, especially recently.
last time i was south america, customs was trying to give me trouble at one of the land borders, but i didn't even hint that i might be willing to pay a bribe. i ended up saying that I would call my embassy, because i didn't understand what the problem was, and they immediately stamped my passport.
if you pay a couple of american dollars as a bribe, that's one thing. but you definitely payed waaaay too much.
5-0 Ivy, remember the night in Valladolid when we got pulled over by the two cops walking??? what the hell, apparently they dont like long haired americans anywhere else eh??? glad to hear you are doing all right. catch ya on the flip side.
holy crap! i can't believe that happened to you. I am glad that you made it safely and all that was lost was money. this adventure of yours never stops being exciting. i am really interested to see where you go next. take care and live it up. peace ivy!
Holy Shit! Holy shit!! Now that is a narrative, my friend. SOO glad to know you are safe and sound and NOT in a fucking jail cell. Counterfeit money? That must have blown your mind dealing with that. Well man, keep on keeping on, and enjoy the rest of your trip. PEace and loyalty 4-eva.
