A native of the glorious capital of the Tang Dynasty, Chang'an, I was born in 712 CE under the reign of Ming Huang. I was blessed to be born into a wealthy family in the Jing'an Ward that is part of the Confucian Bureaucracy, prospering from the thriving Silk Road. Being located in the city that is the Eastern terminus of the Silk Road, I'm constantly surrounded by foreigners with different religions, cultures, and languages. It's amazing and I never cease to be fascinated by the new people I meet and see everyday. I'm currently studying to be a Confucian scholar in the Tang Imperial Court in Chang'an, hopefully ascending the ranks to become a man of great power in the Confucian bureaucracy. Personally, I am a Neo-Confucianist, practicing a religion that has aspects of Daoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. Buddhism is a very strong force here in Chang'an, with beautiful and wealthy monasteries being visited by some of Buddha's most dedicated and devout monks. However, my city is one of great contradictions. While boasting bountiful and worldly goods and welcoming merchants from all corners of the world, our Imperial and Confucian Court continues to be rooted in the classic Confucian ways, unable to see the beauty in Chang'an's eclectic and diverse workings. Even after living in Chang'an and on this world for 18 years, I cannot help but smile every morning, going out into the city streets and being a part of this flourishing city that history will never forget!
