Gulfoss
Gulfoss or Gulf Floss? It would be just like you to arrange for water to fall upwards on the part of the earth named after you. Bet even slartybardfast didn't think of that! What a relief your passport is tied up for a little while - maybe when you get it back you'll let us know before you leave the country willy nilly again. lots of love KG.

Obaasan
I liked your story about the concerned babushka. When my friends and I (aged 16) were trying to cross a road in Japan with 4 lanes of traffic each way, a Japanese grandmother (Obaasan) approached us and warned us (in Japanese) how dangerous it was and to take care. I found it very touching. I would love to go to Russia one day. Would you consider going back with me when Fred and George can travel? Maybe then you can finish your triumvirate and they can start it.

Hey Floss, Ooo I'm jealous. I loved russia. Did you ever wonder why the "Church of Spilled Blood" is called that? Tzar Alexander II was blown up there when getting out of a carriage in the late 1800s. His blood ran down the cracks of the cobbled stone streets. So they built a church on that exact site. That's why there's this sort of "blank" part of the chuck floor which is just cobblestone and no mozaics on it. Pretty morbid, but such is the rest of russian life. As for the old women begging - that's a result of the ruble crash in the 1990s when their life savings suddenly turned into dust. Poor things. Pity about the caviar. Had I known I would have given you a shopping list - you could have brought some back for me!!! Hope you're doing well otherwise. xxx

Cool Space Shuttle
Hey, another round of good pics. So, did you like the underground? They did use that space shuttle, you know. It was called Buran. It flew one mission with no cosmonauts inside. It landed perfectly by remote control and then they ran out of roubles. I think the one that actually flew was crushed to scrap when its hangar collapsed. So sad lah! Squashed before I got a chance to see it!

foot photo/stairs/what does a camel say?
Hi Floss - was the foot photo for me? Which reminds me, I don't think you have a photo of Darcy's feet yet. And congratulations for braving the stairs. I haven't walked up: stairs at Warwick Castle, and the extra stairs at the very top of St Peter's Basilica to name two. So I can appreciate the bravery that went into the decision. I also didn't walk up the Statue of Liberty but that was because I was on crutches and wasn't allowed to. I'm still not sure I would have done it if I'd been ambulatory. You should write a children's book about camels so you can put your spelling of the noises they make in and get them standardised. love bubble

Camels Suck
I feel your pain re the camels. I'm not quite sure if you recall me telling you, but I was cajoled into a TWO DAY camel trip into the Indian desert. I don't know what came over me that I agreed - can you imagine any one less suitable to spend two whole days on a smelly camel in the scorching sun and then sleeping ON the ground with mice and dung beetles?

Missing fourth category
You left out a critical one - animals to EAT. What did they feed you over there?

baby spice, and blanket business
1. You have looked like baby spice in the past. I happen to have a photo of you in a pink mini skirt, pink shirt docs and pig tails (dressed up as baby spice for a fancy dress party back in the 90s). You were quite convincing. 2. I hate smelly blankets. I'd pay double for non-smelly blankets. Wouldn't you? Seems like there's a business opportunity - for someone who doesn't mind hanging out in the cold and washing blankets.

Soccer photo...
...is awesome. And Baby Spice? I guess I could have seen how an Egyptian boy would have thought so, back when you were blonde (rather like my Hong Kong in-laws thought I looked like David Beckham back when I rarely shaved - yuh-huh). But now? Hope your bum problems have cleared up, ha ha ha!

Great photos!
Always wanted to go there - nice images! We're going to Oman and Yemen for Christmas. Well, at that time of the year, anyway. You can have the sensor cleaned on your camera. Shouldn't cost too much. Or, you can get PhotoShop and use the healing tool to remove those black smudges. Or you can go old-school and get an SLR and use slides. Yeee-aaah!
