Last Monday, we all met for class and went to the Tao exhibit at the Grand Palais. It is the first exhibit of its kind and has artifacts dating back many centuries. It tells the life of the Tao and those who practice it, from its inception to when all traces of it were destroyed by one of the dynasties to when it came back. The exhibit was very in depth and had so many interesting things, it would have taken hours to go through it. We, unfortunately, only had a little over an hour. Before the exhibit closes and we leave, I plan on making my way back there to spend some more time. Hopefully I can go when there are less people as most people at the exhibit were rude and ignorant about ... read more

My first weekend in Paris was amazing. On Saturday morning I took Cate to the area around the Centre Pompidou where I had been shopping the day before after class. We went back in the sex store I found and I bought a funny gift for my brother. We went into an amazing jewelry store and she bought several things for herself and as gifts. It was a very cute little shop. Hardly any stores have air conditioning. That is such a foreign concept to me! Even the Louvre didn't have a/c where we were. We walked around a bunch and found some really cool, quirky little stores and enjoyed ourselves completely. We ended up at a cafe drinking kirs which is chilled white wine and fruit liquor. It was amazing. We realized what time it ... read more

Yesterday morning, my entire group met up at FIE for a meeting to get our "derive" destinations. (The first "e" should have an accent over it but i can't do it. You pronounce it "Day-reeve"). The rough translation is "to drift". So we each got a destination. I went with Cate and our destination was the Rue Daguerre. It is very near our dorms and classrooms. We only had to go a few metro stations to get there. We split up when we got there because we felt like we would get the most out of our experiences. Evidently our destination would have been better with two people. I got a bit lost trying to find the street and ended up finding it about halfway down. I was less than impressed with it and continued on ... read more

This morning got started around 10, with Alexandra giving us our Navigo passes. They get us on the RER, Metro and bus. Then we went to the FIE where our classrooms are for an orientation. We got a ton of information and several very useful maps as well as a magazine, called Periscope, that has info on movies, concerts, museums, and all sorts of other cultural things in Paris. It comes out every Wed because that is when the new movies come out, as opposed to Fri back home. On my way back to the dorms tonight, I passed a Cinema and it was absolutely packed. Film is a huge thing in Paris. There is one movie in particular I want to see called When We Were Strange. Its about the Doors and Johnny Depp has ... read more

I landed around 10 AM this morning and made my way to my dorm room, with another girl from my group. Then we took a short tour around the neighborhood and ate lunch. We stopped by a market to buy some groceries so we can eat some in our dorms. After that, we all went back to our rooms and I unpacked all of my stuff into my itty bitty room. At 6:30, the entire group met downstairs at our dorm to go to dinner at a little Italian restaurant around the corner. I had spinach pasta that was amazing. Now I'm talking to Chris :) After this, I'm gonna go back upstairs, shower, and go to bed to get ready for our busy day of sightseeing tomorrow. We get our Navigo passes and then we're ... read more

Chris and I drove out of Tampa around 1:10pm on May 6th. We made it into Dunn, NC a little after 11pm. We left the next morning just after 6am and were officially on the road after breakfast and gas around 7am. We didn't hit any traffic the entire drive until Richmond, VA and even then it wasn't very bad at all. It was shortly after this traffic that Chris started getting annoying, telling me I was tired and he needed to drive now around 11am. He then drove the entire rest of the way into CT. We hit amazing traffic all the way until NYC. We tried to bypass the George Washington Bridge but the signs in that area are impossible to follow so we ended up driving right through NYC. After that, we hit ... read more
