3500 RMB for a return ticket to Taiwan??? and that's the cheapest option??? 3000 RMB to any place in Japan?! more than 2000 to Hong Kong? 06-01-2009 算了 I'm not going! But the weather in Shanghai is awful and the holiday is too long. I need to find a cheap way to get to Japan! Why Japan? Because I've never been there and any place is better than Shanghai. OK so there it is - a boat, from Shanghai to Osaka, it leaves every Friday around noon, and gets to Osaka on Sunday! The cheapest return ticket is 2200 RMB. I'm going! I arrive way too early, slowly the somehow shady looking waiting hall is getting full. I guess most of the people are Chinese, the families with two or more kids must be Japanese. It’s almost eleven, dark and scary, I'm by myself in Hong Kong... It wouldn't be this bad if I had a place to sleep... I don't ... I'm an idiot like I established long ago, and sometimes I do really stupid things, like for example going to Hong Kong without any reservations, during the Spring festival. So it's really late and where am I? In a very 热闹(full of life and people) place - Chunking Mansions. A single girl, in a place you can disappear for ever, but on the bright side my bag is not very big or heavy – now I love myself for not taking that hairdryer, and I hasn’t been attacked, yet. But I’m tired, after queuing for ages to buy train ticket, getting here on foot from Shenzhen and looking for ... read more

I love trains. In China you can take a train from almost everywhere to almost anywhere. And you can take any train you want: there are slow trains, fast trains, new ones, old ones, dirty, clean... doesn't matter, and they have one thing in common - they are all BIG. Of course, in order to fit in all the Chinese people that happen to take them. And indeed that happens a lot... I would say all of the trains are full of people regardless the time and place. They like mobile cities, you can buy food, snacks, fresh fruit, maps and most importantly new socks. There are toilets, hot water dispensers, restaurant and if you’re willing to pay a little bit more for the ticket, you can spent your journey in bed. There is nothing like ... read more

Asia » Taiwan » Kaohsiung ROC February 22nd 2011

After four hours drive from Ali Mountain we arrive in Kaosiung City. Welcomed by kilometres of factories, sea breeze and old narrow streets we're looking for the wedding house. I'm expecting to see guests having a smoke outside, overdressed couples and cute decorations. In fact guests are having smoke inside, people are mostly casual if not underdressed but there are indeed pink balloons everywhere. Invitation said the wedding will start at 12:36 - peculiar time, selected especially for the occasion by a fortune teller. We are late... I'm happy to see that my white face is not causing too much confusion and I almost get away with the lie that I'm from Xinjiang province - mainland China. We wait for the food, I'm starving and have no idea what is going on (like most of the ... read more
