Hey Em, so I just sent you an email without realising I wasn't signed in haha sorry! I was just saying I've been trying to find a place in Tuscany that seems exactly like how you describe Certaldo, it sounds and looks beautiful! You said it's in the centre of Tuscany though so were things quite expensive? eg. restaurants etc? I've been told to try book hostels a few minutes out of the centre of towns as prices can drop dramatically. I'm heading to Europe alone late July 2012 and will hopefully be in Italy around mid August and I'm trying to plan which areas to visit. I've only got probably a week in Italy so I want to go to some worthwhile places, definitely Rome, but anywhere else you recommend for a young traveler? Any info would be appreciated thanks!
Hey Em, this place in Tuscany sounds beautiful, I've been trying to find somewhere that sounds just the way you describe Certaldo! Was just wondering, you say its in the centre of Florence, were restaurants etc expensive in the area? I ask because I've been told to try stay in a hostel a little bit out of town where things can drop dramatically in price because it's not amoungst everything. I'll be heading to Europe alone late July this year and will probably be in Italy around mid August. I'm trying to decide carefully which cities will be worth visiting as I'll only have about a week to spend in Italy. I'll definitely be visiting Rome though. You seem young yourself, what do you recommend? Any info would be great thanks!
Ditto Hi there,
I enjoyed reading your blog as it brought back some very recent memories of our family trip to Europe. We went on a day trip to Morocco and we basically did and saw the exact same things that you mentioned in your blog, minus the hotel stay. I would have to agree with you that Africa is not at all what I thought it was going to be. Morocco was definelty an amazing cultural experience for my family but I still felt like we missed out on something. I guess Africa is such a huge continent and has the reputation of being so hot, dry with lions roaming around. I guess not all parts of Africa. I'm very glad we had the experience and I would like to return again one day as I felt very rushed on the tour. I didn't even get a chance to buy the leather slippers. Did you not feel ovewhelmed when the locals rushed at you trying to sell you something? I thought it was a bit much and my boys were a little freaked out. Thanks for reading. I am from Canada but both my family and my husbands family are from Europe (Portugal and Italy). Keep on blogging.
SPECTACULAR Dear Em,
I am so excited for you and your experiences in Europe. Also, I must tell you that you are certainly a Journalist and Photographer. Your trips are so wonderful to read about her in Santa Cruz. I am hoping for some pics of your Mom and Dad and you soon.
Love you, Connie Grimes-Gruber
Envy Dear Emily,
Tom and I have such fond memories of our trip to Spain. We too were in awe of Paco and Paulina and spent several days in the north. Visiting the family and driving around the Basque country was magical. I'd love to compare photos when you get back. You have prompted us to think about returning to Spain. We'd love to see the family again and meet Maria and Leticia. I was in Spain last year with a friend but missed connecting with anyone. I am so glad that you are having such a wonderful time-it truly is an extraordinary country.
Fondly,
Gail

Amazing Emily I am so happy for you, Em. You are seeing so much of the world and seem to be absorbing more than I could. Has school started yet? Linda and I had a great one day in Rome and the Vatican, but of course didn't see as much as you have. Love you, Connie
FANTASTIC Dear Emily, You are just amazing and what a trip!!! I hope that you plan to write a book or make a DVD of your adventures this year. You are so creative, write so well, and are so beautiful and adorable. Thanks for sharing. Love, Connie
Have a wonderful experience Dear Precious Emily, Your Mom is keeping me informed of your adventures. Thank goodness for SKype so that your Mom and Dad won't cry them selves to sleep every night. You are the best. Have a great semester and stay safe and healthy. Love, Connie
Keep having fun Hi Emily, loved hearing about the beginning of your trip, especially the confusion between school and grocery store. The important distinction to get correct has to do with beauty salons. Salons are really pubs and pubs are really salons. so don't be surprised if you think you're going in for a manicure and instead are given a martini! Sounds like you guys are having a blast. Look forward to reading more. Great photos! --and please forgive your aunt's lame attempt at a joke :- )
