Geo: 28.5377, -81.3774May 12, 2010A side note to our days ~ hubby has been watching some TV in our hotel room and since it isn't pre-recorded and he can't pause TV like at home ~ he's a DVR junkie ~ he's been "forced" to watch commercials for the first time in over a year. He is fascinated! He is cracking-up at them! He's yelling at me to hurry and come in the room and watch them or look-up and see this or that. I am highly amused. There was a commercial about a guy celebrating because he started the lawn mower on the first pull that was hilarious. Maybe commercials have gotten better???So... Day 3. We slept~in this morning. Sorta. We were awake by 8:00. We can see IHOP from our window and decided to have ... read more

Geo: 28.5377, -81.3774May 11, 2010I was awake at 6:32 this morning!! We had yet to decide what park we would visit but I knew Universal Studios opened at 9:00. We kept throwing around the idea of Universal Studios today and Epcot Thursday or a 2-day, 2-park pass to Universal Studios and skipping Epcot or hubby wanted to see about a gatorboat ride, etc. We decided to get Universal passes. Went downstairs and purchased them (on sale) from the hotel concierge desk. Nice. I don't know why I was surprised by this but I was. Prior to traveling here I had been unable to find a discount on theme park tickets anywhere. Odd, I thought.Tickets in hand, we walk to Denny's for breakfast.. again, semi-across from our hotel, on I-drive, and an easy-breezy walk of less than ... read more

Geo: 28.5377, -81.3774May 10, 2010 Hubby went to bed around 10:00 Sunday night. I vowed to be there by midnight ~ I just wanted to do a few last-minute things. Shortly after midnight, I was in bed... but not asleep. I tossed & turned and could not sleep. At 2:07 am I was sitting in bed working on my Farmville crops listening to my snoring husband next to me. I finally gave-up and forced myself to attempt sleep. I couldn't imagine why I was excited for this vacation because it wasn't a big trip compared to our last few journeys. I lay there wondering what it must like for a 7-year-old to think he/she would be boarding a plane the next day to go to Disneyworld?? O MY GOSH ~ How insanely fun would that be?? ... read more

Geo: 37.209, -93.2916May 9, 2010It is Sunday night and we are packed, the car is clean and full of gas, and the alarm is set for 5:00 am tomorrow! YIKES! Of course, the one thing I've yet to do.... go online and actually purchase our park tickets. You see... I was fairly set on a 2-day, 2-park pass to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure ~ all owned by Universal and in the same area ~ 2 parks themed around movies, characters, etc. Lots o' roller coasters, lots of character amusement. THEN... I followed a friend in Orlando on Twitter last week and they spent the day at Epcot at the World Showcase ~ 1.3 miles, 11 countries, all showcasing various performers, drinks, foods, and entertainment!! How exciting I thought!! This is a park we must ... read more

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823October 4, 2009Today was check-out day on the ship. The ship arrived in Citavecchia (the port, approximately 45 minutes from Rome) at 3am and people began leaving around 5:30am. We were off the ship at 08:30am. We took a Royal Caribbean shuttle bus out of the port, walked to the train station, and took the train into Rome. We did well today ~ we were at our hotel before noon! We stayed at the same hotel but this time we had a smoking room and it was the best room in the hotel ~ or so we think ~ huge sleigh bed (Art Deco style), huge painting, very tall windows that opened on two different streets (corner room), etc. We quickly changed and walked back to the Termini or the "hub" of this area ... read more

Geo: 40.246, 12.1289October 3, 2009Today was a fantastic day of sleeping-in until 9:30am, going to the dining room and ordering a leisurely breakfast ~ omelet for hubby & blueberry pancakes for me ~ and then spending the majority of the day, in our pajamas, on our balcony or in our bed. It was wonderful! The ship was slowly cruising to our final return to port tomorrow so we had all day to do nothing and we enjoyed it thoroughly. I spent the morning buying pictures ~ Hubby and I had "lifestyle/casual" portraits made a few days ago ~ it's a thing they do where you schedule your portrait session, for free, they take pics of you in jeans or whatever, and if you like them, you buy them. It's basically a free professional photo session. We ... read more

Europe » Italy » Sardinia October 2nd 2009

Geo: 40.0666, 8.9795October 2, 2009 ~ Sardinia, Italy Today the ship docked at the island of Sardinia, Italy. From our balcony, Sardinia looked exactly like Genoa, Italy (which is a good thing). We were all given maps of Cagliria, the city where the ship docked, and were bused out of the port to main street. Hubby & I began walking and I felt like I had a fever and sick to my stomach. So, we walked until we found a little supermarket and he bought me a tea. It was sweet and horrible. I pitched it and minutes later we just happened to walk by a little vending area where for 0.50 Euro (like 50 cents), I got a bottled water. I drank most of it and began feeling much better. We walked to see what ... read more

Geo: 39.5695, 2.65002October 1, 2009 ~ The Island of Mallorca, SpainWell, if you read yesterday's blog then you know we had a wonderful, long day yesterday, ate dinner, and slept from ~8pm until ~5am. We both woke-up refreshed and hungry ~ we are used to our 1am or 2am room service meals. Ha! So, we took showers and hung-out watching our ship slowly arrive into the port of Palma on the Island of Mallorca, Spain (home of Michael Douglas and Katherine Zeta Jones ~ whom we did not see today, however). It was foggy and beautiful. The restaurants began serving breakfast at 7am so we ate and came back to the room waiting for the ship to finish docking. There was a small group of early risers eating at the tables, watching us slowly drift into ... read more

Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona September 30th 2009

Geo: 41.3879, 2.16992September 30, 2009 ~ Barcelona SpainToday was Barcelona, Spain. After a late night drinking champagne and a very busy boat full of people partying until the wee hours, we finally fell asleep. We didn't dock in Barcelona until 10am this morning so everyone, including us, stayed-up super late last night. We went to breakfast at 9:30am and you could barley get a seat ~ everyone was up late and apparently, hungry. Barcelona's port is not "pretty" like the previous ports because it is a very busy shipping port with lots of action everywhere. I had no idea Barcelona would be like a Spanish New York City ~ I had pictured a quaint, laid-back town that had old dogs sleeping and everyone taking siestas but this was not to be the case ~ it is ... read more

Europe » France September 29th 2009

Geo: 43.7042, 7.31015September 29, 2009 ~ Nice, France ~ The Port of Villefranche, FranceAfter being awake again until super late last night, our wake-up call was for 7:15 this morning. Well, we awoke to the most beautiful site ever ~ France ! Wonderful! This is an absolutely beautiful area. The trees are gorgeous, the hotels and apartments are nice, the streets are clean, graffiti is non-existent - unlike Italy, which has graffiti everywhere, and basically, I loved France. Loved it. If we were ever to take a holiday somewhere and stay for a week or so, with money being no object, VilleFranche or Nice would be on the top of my list. That being said, our day was long and again, Hubby & I did a lot of walking but today we were much better at ... read more
