Edwina Dass

Hey everyone! I'm 21, from Singapore the land of clean and not so green, recently graduated from fashion school and have a knack for surprising my parents with news of my impromptu departures to various cities depending on my mood =) It would be ironic to say that I love to travel since I'm on this site but then again, with that aside, I LOVE TO TRAVEL and immerse myself in the anticipation of a new trip, disembarking at a new destination, figuring it out and meeting people from every corner of the globe! So far in life, I've had a memorable journey of time spent...

- having a ball of a time in Florida, United States,
- romancing Italy and France,
- lost in translation in Seoul, Korea,
- turning back time in India, including the Indian-controlled state of Srinagar, Kashmir,
- getting multiple glimpses of paradise in Thailand,
- greeting our 'neighbor' in Malaysia,
- having mixed emotions in Indonesia, and
- making up my mind in a jiff that the best country to live in is Australia.

It may look like I've travelled fairly extensively, but in actual fact, it has only just begun. I relate to being a traveller, not a tourist and by heading out to the unknown based on sole instinct, adaptibility, an open mind, lack of judgement and a tour guide (in some instances i've resorted to one when I genuinely feared for my safety), I can guarantee that the experience would make 200% more of an impact. I'm currently researching into backpacking/volunteering around South America sometime at the end of 2008 or 2009, which tentatively includes Chile, Argentina, Brasil and Peru, and possibly a handful of brief stopovers around the region.

There's LOADS more where that came from so don't hesitate to let me know what you think, how your day's going or whatsoever =)

...but the journey that matters in the end. The 9th and 10th of November in the year 2007 have managed to fill part of the void that exists in the seemingly boring life of Edwina Dass and I'm genuinely proud of myself that I've accomplished a notable few things from my list of Things to do before I die, in 1 DAY OF MY LIFE! *pats herself on her back* Going on an elephant trek and seeing the world from the highest point on an animal. White water rafting, one of the few occasions where I had immeasurable fun getting banged up. All-Terrain Vehicle, 15 mins of it couldn't do justice but hey, it is something. So here we are, closing in on the week long getaway. It's a lazy Monday afternoon, getting up at 1pm ... read more

What a beauty! That's the first thing that came to my mind almost everytime I turned my head to look at yet another spectacular scenery. Before we got to the Raya islands which was our first stop, we woke up to another devastatingly rainny morning. What made it 100000x worse was that in this weather, we were supposed to be heading out to sea. Trust me, as much as I love the water and the lil fishies and all that, the thought of being stuck in the middle of the ocean in the midst of a monsoon storm almost made us wanna cancel the trip but we decided to head on with it. Got to the jetty and after a 15 min wait, the rain cleared up enough for us to make our way out to ... read more

It rained...AGAIN! I didn't really expect this kinda of weather in Phuket since it's supposed to have cleared up by now but hey, with the freaky weather and all that, I'm glad it's nothing along the lines of a monsoon or sth. Woke up hungry so decided to pop by 7/11 which is next door for a bite and wait for our shuttle service to pick us up for a day at ADVENTURE CAMP! We booked this tour which includes white water rafting, jungle trekking, swimming at a 'secret' waterfall, ATV, elephant trelling and on to an elephant show, all for 1025baht per person. We got a good deal on it coz we'd decided to book a snorkelling daytrip to Coral and Raya Islands along with that. Other than the fact that it seemed virtually impossible ... read more

8th to 9th November 2007 It's been interesting so far. Met people from all over the globe and decided to call for our own UN meeting ;) The days and nights have consisted of the usual of waking up at 12 or 1pm and heading out for breakfast, walking along the 17575499494 streets looking at the same stuff shop to shop , chilling at the beach with the sun hitting your face and putting you back to sleep, going back to the guesthouse for a shower and back out again for dinner and another night of partying. But these monotonous times don't make up for the entire trip because tomorrow's gonna be different, MUCH different. No hints on this one, just wait and see :)... read more

Getting up at a specifically set time is a chore in Thailand. Or generally when you are on vacation. But nonetheless, we set the alarm to 9am so that we had about 3 hrs to freshen up, pack up our last few belongings, have breakfast at the resort, take the last few pictures and check out of our room. We had set an appointment the night before at the beauty salon opposite our resort to get ourselves 'party beach' worthy...aka...manicure/pedicure/waxing/whatnot. I just remembered that I got splashed by murky water that was on the road, courtesy of some maniac driving past (pretty hard to figure out which one as they're all like that). That was some experience coz I also remember myself having some weird reaction along the lines of "WAHHHH!" and the entire street of ... read more

WAY TOO FAST. Time passes way too fast when you're having a ball of a time yet sinking into the ultimate of relaxation and abandon. After sleeping in pretty well the first night, we woke up to have some breakfast at the resort and more photoshoots haha. You can't help it really, with a place as good-looking as this....and I BEST be stopping going on and on about it before I start pissing someone off =P Took the shuttle service from the resort down to Kata Beach. It was a 10 min approximate ride but I think it would have been quite an adventure walking to the beach, since we didn't realise that it wasn't THAT far off anyways. Getting to the beach, I swear the first thing out of my mouth was, "OH SHIT." It ... read more

November 6th 2007

Woke up to a really gloomy, wet morning wondering if Phuket was gonna be in the same state, met my friend Eylia a lil later than planned, sprinted like a buncha retards to our boarding gate after a false tip from our friend working at the airport that our flight was taking off at that very minute, took an hr long stuffy plan ride to Phuket International airport, went on the craziest minivan journey of my life to kata beach fearing for the safety of the entire stray dog (and sometimes human) population of Phuket and finally recieving the best welcome gift being...Phuket Sawasdee Village Resort & Spa. It might have been a case of having constant doubts as to whether the actual hotel would turn out as brilliant as it looks on the website (the ... read more

October 29th 2007

Almost packed and entirely ready to leave, the anticipation of the upcoming trip in EIGHT DAYS is not letting me get any of my work done. Guess that happens sometimes ;) I'm not quite sure what it is about Thailand that gets me there 3 times a year (true events of 2006). I'm thinking it the affordability of almost everything, and I must say it feels good to buy rounds and rounds of drinks for your mates and yourself and not feel like you've burnt a black hole through your pocket. The island life, I don't even have to say. And also the fact that noone gives a hoot if you'd walk around barefoot or half clothed (not in a hookerish sort of way, of course). I've done some extensive research on places to visit besides ... read more

Yay, so I finally got started :) I can't wait for my vacation to Phuket, Thailand in early November this year! My friend Eylia and I will be staying at Kata and Patong beaches in Phuket, and also hope to travel around to the surrounding islands. Both of us turned 21 one day apart from each other so it's also a little celebratory event too haha. There's always a reason to celebrate in life, and what better way than to travel right? Just got our tickets booked on Air Asia on the 6th to 13th of November, staying at Phuket Sawasdee Village at Kata beach for the first 2 nights and then on to Little Buddha Guesthouse at Patong beach for the remainder of our stay. Sawasdee Village is supposed to be a really beautiful resort ... read more
