We're coming back slowly! - From: Long Beach after Hurricane Katrina
Our town is finally picking up on the rebuilding efforts. We have a bed and breakfast now, and lots of new places to eat. The beach is beautiful. Thank you for liking our town. I'm 27 and am now beginning to appreciate this small town!

Great Fried Soft Shell Crabs - From: Seafood at Middendorf's
We always have our family get together's to celebrate any birthday we can find as an excuse to all meet at Middendof's to enjoy their wonderful fried foods. Soft Shell Crabs are a must. They have never been fried better then to have Middendorf fry them in their friers. The crabs come out so crunchy and fried perfectly. No other restaurant can fry them that perfectly, and we have tried all over Louisiana.

Memories - From: Po-Boys in Long Beach
When I saw this picture it reminded me of when I first met my wife. She lived in Long Beach and I lived in Indiana. Just a day or so after I met her she took me here, one of her favorite places to eat. I remember sitting at the tables in front looking out at the harbor, the wind blowing napkins off the table, me trying to impress her while shrimp fell down the front of my shirt. Those Po-Boys were huge. That was 2002, we got married in August 2005 just days before Katrina. It was so sad when we came back to the coast and saw the destruction. Then we drove down 90 and saw the blue foundation, that was all that was left. Hopefully they will rebuild along with the rest of her hometown. I'm just glad I got to experience the coast the way it was. I'm afraid that it will be many, many years if not decades before it even gets close to the way it was.

GOOD MEMORIES! - From: Seafood at Middendorf's
As a former native born New Orleanian, I remember it well. Jim and I will be going to Madisonville, La., in April. A trip to Middendorf sounds like a fine idea. THANKS!

Greatest Fried Catfish Ever - From: Seafood at Middendorf's
I am 40, from New Orleans and have traveled the world. I always try seafood every place I go to, but have never tasted fried catfish that can match up to Middendorf's.

Thanks for the memories. - From: A Vacation in Long Beach, Mississippi
I just found these photos and your comments. I lived a block away from the restaurants where you ate in Long Beach. My home, the restaurants, and the culture that you described is gone. I suspect it is gone forever. Thanks for the lovely photos of my favorite restaurants. They were taken just a few days before August 29. The day that changed my life forever.

Bankhouse Coffee - From: Coffee at the Bank
When I was growing up during the 50's, this was the Post Office and had been for a long time. The old building has served in many capacities. After my dad-in-law (a baker) died, these folks bought some of his equipment that was used to make the pasteries. Hope they can open again.

Glad you saw it when you did - From: A Vacation in Long Beach, Mississippi
Glad to read that you enjoyed our wonderful town. Will be years before it's that beautiful again. Driving down the beach is heartbreaking now. Only those who own property south of the railroad are allowed in the area now. Nothing at all is left on the beach (Hwy 90) Very sad.

the red car - From: A Wedding - Louisiana Woman - Mississippi Man
Who is driving the newlyweds? Is the bride sitting on the grooms lap up front? Where did they go for the honeymoon? I loved the white church...it looks like the one I grew up attending. Was there a cemetary in the back? I have never had Cajun food...maybe one day...
