| 12th November 2009 Marcoelitaliano | This Is Poetry! - From: Shanghai Sailor! Man, this beautifully written piece brought my mind back to my (short) days of wanna-be-seaman, a few years back, and to all the romantic (and not so romantic) dreams that inevitably came with it. Wish You plenty more lucky sailing winds, my flights-unfriendly friend. Marco |

| 25th February 2009 Drunken Tiger | Trans -Mongolian Express - From: The Trans-Mongolian Express (1): Moscow to Lake Baikal Thanks for your comments! This is a great journey if you like slooow travel, as I tried yo convey in my blog. For booking, it is best to orgainse everything in advance, as visas can't be bought on the border. Allow a couple of weeks to get the visas. There are many agencies who handle the ticketing, and the visas: I used Intourist here in London, then Monkey Shrine in Hong Kong for the return leg (yup, I also came back on it...). I'm not sure if Monkey Shrine are still in business. A fantastic website/book is Seat61. I don't think we can write links here, for some reason they get stripped out. But just do a google search. Seat61 is the most amazing resource for overland travel, especially good for trains. If you decide to get the visas yourself then China and Mongolia are quite easy, (but I went before the Chinese tightened up rules for the Olympics). Russia - definitely use agency. Good luck! Simon |
