Thanks, you make my day! But we need more please......it's finally summer in CA, thank GOD!
I am passing this onto Marilyn Davis, she will enjoy it, she has been Balkan dancing for 20+ years...you may hear from her also.
Nice stuff Hey,
I just read thru your entire collection, its very entertaining and interesting. I am looking into going to the caucuses myself sometime this summer, and your blog has been a inspiration.
Ha ha Loads of fun so far, thanks for the update and picks. It's cold here in sunny CA. June gloom is here and it's windy too so you are not missing much.

what a trip well Jon this tops the other stories -- you should really consider getting published. Aren't you ready for a new career? Travel writer extraordinare!
White coats? I think you might be an escaped mental patient! Only you would sing with Santa in Armenia while eating pork sticks!!!! Good times!
Can't wait to see you when you get home.
Do you think if you use the furniture polish on your head it will work as well as the suntan lotion on the furniture? Maybe you should try it. Miss you.
'cause he looks like you! I had to laugh. I think you connected with Garegin II because he looks like you - when you have a beard! Maybe you are related and just now connecting? You sound good - sorry you still cry sometimes. Take care.

getting to know you Hi Jon....I finally got your TravelBlog and really enjoyed it...what a circus you are living in, it makes Grover Lane seem BORING... we too have potholes and potential land mines just no dominatris shoes or women even willing or able to bend down to tie them up or on, instead you can find women in their pajamas carrying cups of coffee, walking their dogs or sweeping plums off the drive way and ducking from overly protective parenting birds...phew, what a long sentence...anyway, your life sounds positively delightful and somewhat intimidating but there's no place like home (Santa Cruz) so we'll look forward to your addition to the 'Lane'...

Daisys? hi jon...nice to see what appear to be gerber daisies on the altar....a bit of color in the rather bleak surroundings...also is that mary above the altar? good to see the feminine instead of the usual blooody jesus, our saviour, holding court in the chapel. enjoying your writing... its a pleasure to keep up with your trip. back to big sur tomorrow...back to the slow, slow computer.....i have given up trying to be patient. so catch up when i'm here. later.
I just read Jake the part about the "deserts" (which I found hilarious) and then told him, "Honey, this is from the land of your ancestors." And he said, "Oh no! No wonder everyone at school thinks I'm mentally insane."
good job!! Jon, just got to my computer today, (sort of computer and cell phone less) actually kind of a nice reprieve! Great stories and pics! really fun ! Later....
Rabiz Party Hi Jon,
I love your comments and photos of Armenia. You referred to the Rabiz Party as the new "low brow culture". By this description, do you mean they are gigilos of Armenia, looking for the right foreign woman to pay for their services?
thanks corinne forwarded me your blog. what an engaging writer you are. . . and funny. thanks for the thorough, candid view of this part of the world and your reactions to it. i'll look forward to more.
Metallica RULEZ My life seems tame and ordinary after looking at your page. Go git 'em big gaaah! You've inspired me to head down to Molera to camp, though I doubt I'll find minks or Soviet caps for sale!
what the Soviets hath wrought It's wonderful to read about your pilgrimage through post-Soviet land. The beautiful images are the mountains and the churches, the latter of which are done in pure Armenian style. The rest of the buildings are Soviet monumental, dismal reminders of Soviet political power .The worst was Stalinist baroque which still dots the periphery of Moscow. Keep it up Jon. We're all very proud of you.
I officially started my travel addiction during a Fulbright year in Zimbabwe back in 1991. Since then I've had a number of visiting professor gigs in interesting places. In a good year I'm able to squeeze in two or three trips. Sometimes I feel like I could simply not return and spend the rest of my life living out of my suitcase.
