I know this post was from a couple of years ago, so not sure if you will get this but my husband and I will be travelling to Italy to celebrate our 25th anniversary in May and I just found your trip report. Thank you for such details! Sound
like you had a wonderful trip. We be in Venice for 3 nights. Before that we plan on taking a day trip from Milan to Varenna/Lake Como area. After seeing your pictures and reading your report of Lake Como, I am thinking even more about cutting out one night from Venice and one night from Milan and instead of a daytrip to Varenna, stay 2 nights in Varenna, and 2 nights instead of 3 in Venice. We have a set date to return home and cannot extend it. We enjoy outdoor/natural beauty much more than crowds and cities so this might be a better itinerary for us.
