Yeah! We made it to the Azores – on schedule despite the delays which occurred along the way. That meant that we had an early morning (wake-up call for 6:30). We had everything laid out so we would be able to get started quickly and not leave anything behind accidentally. We got dressed and had a reasonably quick buffet breakfast, so we actually had a few extra minutes to sit on the deck and drink tea while the ship finished docking. Then it was down to the main theater to be ready for disembarking. Our tour had 3 buses going to the same places, so we were fortunate to be in the first bus and therefore ahead of the crowds at each place. Our guide was named Manuel and he spoke English very well (good vocabulary ... read more

The Grand Princess must have really been hustling across the ocean to make up for our earlier delays, because last night we lost another hour (once again it was a 23 hr day). We are now 5 hours earlier than St Louis. But they think we are back on schedule and we hopefully will arrive on time tomorrow morning – weather permitting. Anyway, I guess all those lost hours finally had caught up with us, as we slept in until past 9:30 this morning. Fortunately there was nothing special we wanted to do (except breakfast) until the presentation on Falmouth England. Like the others, that was also interesting to give us ideas of what is ahead. One convenient feature is that there is a button on the room phone where you can get the current time. ... read more

This morning was a comparatively early rising day at 7:30 AM (even after adjusting the clocks ahead last night). We think that would make it 3:30 in the morning for any sleepy heads back in St Louis. Today‘s schedule is similar to the past few days – eat a lot, visit some entertainment spots, and generally relax all day. It may be starting to sound boring to you, but it is very restful for us. Soon we will begin the excursions at different places and the stories should become more interesting again. Rather than tell you eah thing we did do today, maybe it would be better to tell you about some of the things we did not do. There are many venues which we have not mentioned because we either were not interested or did ... read more

Good morning. For those who think that Monday is a workday, be advised that this was a sleep-in morning on the ship. Last night was a late night for us and then we lost an hour in time zones, so we slept until about 9:00 (that would be 6:00 AM in St Louis). It was very restful. But then it was time to get a meal and make a plan for today. We attended the presentation on Greenock Scotland, which also included Glasgow, Edinburgh, and much of the Scottish lochs and terrain. We are learning that there will be much that we miss each time we go on an excursion, so maybe someday we will need to visit again but spend more time in each place. The captain announced that we had past the midpoint on ... read more

Good morning from Bermuda. What? That wasn’t on the cruise itinerary. Actually someone had a medical emergency last night and the ship had to divert here to deliver them to the local hospital. The captain says that if we run at full speed the rest of the way, then we can still get to Ponta Delgado on time. We will just have to see if that works or not. But for the moment we got a brief view of Bermuda (from their shipping channel). Anyway, we went up to the Horizon Court for breakfast and viewing of the tip of Bermuda while we waited for the pilot boat to bring our doctor back. In the meantime we enjoyed a nice leisurely sunny morning and got a small glimpse of some place we hadn’t expected to see. ... read more

This was another leisurely day at sea – very relaxing! The sky was slightly overcast when we sailed out of Florida yesterday, but it cleared later in the day when we got away from the mainland. We are heading northeast today and have picked up some overcast again today, but no rain and still short sleeve temperatures. The sea is nice and calm with no problems to report. For some reason, they have not opened the pools yet (didn’t even have water in the pools until yesterday afternoon, but that did not stop some folks from sunning themselves on the upper deck). We slept in late this morning before going up to get a small buffet breakfast. Then it was off to immigration and we have now already gotten cleared to disembark in the UK (passports ... read more

At last we have sailed. Ft Lauderdale seems to be a nice place to visit, but we have other places we wanted to see during this vacation too. Fortunately, the ship passed its tests and we sailed just after 8:00 AM this morning. We were having breakfast in the dinning room, and a small cheer went up when we started moving past the shore-side estates. One small problem in our cabin was that the batteries wore out in door lock. We reported it to the main desk and they sent someone to replace them, but for a short time there we were locked out of the cabin. I guess that was not part of the refurbishment in drydock. The cabin itself seems to be smaller than we had on the past two cruises – it has ... read more

Today got off to a leisurely start. We slept in and then had a nice breakfast in the hotel. The shuttle to the port did not leave until 12:30, so we had plenty of time to repack the suitcases and explore around the hotel area. The temperature here in Florida is in the mid-80s and slightly overcast, but nothing chilly or rainy like it had been back in St Louis. But then we were off to Port Canaveral and ready to start the cruise. The hotel provided a 12:30 shuttle service to Port Everglades and that got us to the ship by 1:00 with a minimum of effort. The luggage was off-loaded from the bus onto a container for the ship and they were eventually delivered to our cabin – no effort on our part. However, ... read more

All the planning and preparation is over, the bags have been packed nearly to bursting, and the only thing left is to have fun and relaxation on the trip. There was only one non-stop flight from St Louis (it arrives in Florida just 30 minutes before the ship sails) so we decided not to risk connections on cruise-day and we came down here a day early. That took the “last minute stress” out of the vacation and we will have plenty of time tomorrow to board the ship. So today started the vacation, but we don't get to the ship until tomorrow. We got to the airport today in plenty of time (thanks to Elizabeth driving us), the flight on Southwest to Florida was a little bumpy as we approach the landing but uneventful, and both ... read more

Welcome to the BLOG for our cruise to Great Britain, with travel to various places in Europe. During the months since our last exciting cruise, we have been eagerly looking forward to this next trip and are thrilled that the time has come at last to begin traveling again. We leave St Louis on May 4th and will keep a record of our daily adventures to post on the BLOG whenever we have a chance. This is not going to be a short story as we have planned a very interesting and somewhat ambitious vacation. Please watch for updates on our adventure and hopefully we will be able to make the reading as interesting for you as the experience is fun for us. (This is also a test to make sure the link to the blog ... read more
