Lovely portraits! As usual, fascinating portraits.
I wonder how people, 300 years from now, would portray our current society... in a event like this sometime in the distant future!! What is fascinating about our times that will evoke nostalgia in those people. What'll they be re-enacting in an event like this!
Canadian connection! I always suspected and now I know why you love our Maple syrup. Ironically, it was indeed Newfoundland where I also started my colourful journey in Canada. A good collection of stories engaging the historical re-enactors, Dave! Dudes are cool alright!
Canadian connection! Legend has it that my great grandfather was the Mayor and also the Magistrate of Bay Bulls, was charged with smuggling Wellington boots, presided over his own trial and was not convicted! His daughter my grandmother was the first woman to graduate in medicine in Newfoundland. My father presented her photograph which at one time was displayed in the foyer of the hospital but is now held at the university. Our son lives in Toronto. My great grandfather's name of Hamilton (my third name) has been carried through four generations now.
Steam Punk Dave? So this is what you get up to when I'm away at the ballet!
Loved your story writing, almost surpassed the spectacular photos, the whole thing made me smile as you would have been totally at home with these people :)
Off beat China This is great stuff. I've never heard of these places that you have so poetically brought to life. I too like the Kitchen God and the Jade Emperor. Dave
Off beat China Thanks for commenting Dave. China has so much to offer but as with all places it is how you embrace it that defines the experience. Like you I like remote...off the track...out of the way...where treasures await the finding not needing to advertise their presence.
An amazing country We have not been and until we began reading your blogs we had limited interest. Never mess with a kitchen god! Always eager to read these adventures.
The Kitchen God The story of the Kitchen God was so touchy. It is turning out to be a wonderful experience to read all about the old treasures of China, Dave.....Carry on, please
The Kitchen God China is not a tour for me, Tab. It is a land of hospitable people, a culture, that is so old it exudes from the rocks...glad you are enjoying the ride.
A province like no other As always your photos are amazing. Finding those lost and forgotten hidden gems is what traveling is all about. The world is full of harsh stories. And-- why is all the really cool stuff up hundreds of steps. Eager for more.
China Nice to hear from you Alan. As you can see from my China blogs, China is...how can I put it...so crammed full of treasures that your senses will be excited you have made the choice to discover the delights.
Looks like a place I'd love to visit Just like you I have been to Dazu and I loved that. Many years ago I visited Yungang Grottoes in Datong and they were great too. It looks like Maji Shan is just as good as those other are. /Ake
Looks like a place I'd love to visit You have been to Dazu and Yungang, Ake...sounds like you can empathise with my passion for carved grottoes. Maiji Shan is less known but uniquely spectacular. Guarantee you'd love it. Next blog another grotto site only discovered by local knowledge...the playground of the immortals!
My wife Denise & I like to travel "on paths less travelled" that capture our imagination, inspire my photography & where we mix with locals & remain safe.
