Dude It's a poor quality picture, made worse by the upload. Ask anyone who's actually seen her and they'll tell you she's way cute. Don't knock her, Di, till you've seen her.
Shalom! Hey Niel,
Looks like Japan is quite rockin! I hope you and Aydin chill when he gets there in a week or so. Check your email soon for a letter from me...

Snap! Maaan it looks like you're having a fantastic time there! Hope everything continues to go well. I just want you to know I'll be disappointed if I don't start reading about the new hit sensation sweeping the Japanese nation known as "The Danny Neil Experience," composed primarily of you and one of those bitchin double guitars.
That is all.
Yay! I just finished reading through all your blog posts! :) It's so wonderful being able to read what all you've been up to, honey. And thanks again so much for calling me yesterday! It was so awesome being able to talk to you again after so long. I'm sorry we were cut off like that, and I hope I didn't zap too much of your calling card away. Take care, be safe, keep writing, and go Kanako! ;) Di
PS Yes, I'm slowly reverting to proper capitalization, complete with correct punctuation. I was beginning to feel guilty and informal.
Envy You make me want to be there with you! Perhaps not the bath house, though. :) Ah! Just reading your journal gives me shivers; I want to leave in an instant and go travel across the world! Thanks for the detail and the vivid pictures - it's so much fun to read about your trip as you take it!
oh danny boy seems strangely appropriate now that you're out all night drinking and carrying on. I was terrified for you when you left--so glad to see you're really having a great time. I'm glad you decided to skp the bath house tho...anyways. We miss you! Keep writing and posting--it's wonderful to have a view of you in Japan from here
Debauchery You Bacchanalian, you. If you want some real debauchery you should visit me in Tokyo and we can hit up Roppongi Hills (said to be the Vegas Strip of Japan) which is only a hop, skip, and a jump away from where I'll be staying.
DDB guy looks like a Grapevine guy Even down to his white gloves-- the "I heard it through the grapevine" dancing raisins of US advertising fame. But then what do expect at 3 AM :-)
Mental energy It takes a lot of energy to work things in a new culture; sounds like you've met your stride. I haven't yet on the guitar!
No searches for the best noodles yet?
One drink to watch out for: green tea infusion! made me gag. That's the health benefit...
film obsession Smiled as I read your entry, today was my first day @Tribeca Film Festival and thought fondly of our Sundancing - am hoping you will be able to tell about movie theatre(s) and library(ies)- both excellent research arenas! Z
On calves Hello Danny,
You write very well. I have bookmarked this thing and would be disappointed if it were entirely forsaken for the charms of the sturdy-calved Japanese girls.
With regard to those calves, the hills probably have very little to do with it. There is not a lot known about muscular development, but one thing a lot of scientists--and bodybuilders agree upon--is that calves are a difficult thing to build through failure-induced hypertrophy. Most theories say that calve size is hugely genetic and any appreciable gains in their size are rare, as is atrophy. Mind you, strength can be built and lost by normal means, but the bulge remains the same.
Keep on keeping on.
missing ingredient Ogenki-desuka saiai no hito tomodachi!
I have been up to some research Calpis ingredients include fermented milk/yougurt, condensed lactic acid, yeast, soybean peptide...take your pick, which one were you tasting???
Revel in your explorations
you look like you're 27 in that picture. . incredible what 5 o'clock shadow will do for you
okay. . i'm actually going to go and read them now. . sorry. . i must admit i was initially drawn to the pictures
Flippin' Awesome Hey amigo,
It looks like you're getting along okay during your first week in Japan. It's nice to see that your host family has been so welcoming, that God resides in the closet (I can relate, but I'll tell you about that later), etc. Anyways, I hope you thoroughly enjoy your time in Japan, and look forward to seeing you in September. Don't worry, we'll work on the effigy in the coming weeks. Maybe by then, I'll be on the picture wall? Okay, probably not, but one can hope, right? Haha.
Take care, my friend,
Rish
God is Here... ...and living in your closet. how odd. hope he doesn't mind your playing the guitar. maybe it's just one step towards being a rock god in japan. glad to see you're enjoying japan. and stop pantomining...you're not playing charades.
Updated for China:
Now I'm a rising senior at Stanford - but still directionless. Come, read and listen to my tale of wanderings through China. Plus, I'm sure there'll be funny Chinglish along the way.
For Japan:
If you see this, you probably know me. Nothing of great import will be related here, nor will any greater truth be arrived at as a result of my travels. I'm a Stanford sophomore heading to Kyoto for spring quarter and then I'll be interning at Kyoto Sangyo University for a neuroscience deally during the summer.... full info
