Yesterday was pretty much the most relaxed and stress free I have been in my entire life! I had 12 hours of deep blissful sleep and woke up slowly to the sound of waves on the beach. The day was totally my own and I just did what ever I felt like when ever I felt like it. I took a long walk down the beach, which was more or less empty except for the tracks the nesting turtles made the night before. I guess I walked about 3 miles or so just with my feet in the ocean and the sun on my shoulders. It clouded over for a little while so I read my book sat on the top of the steps to the sand. It got hot really quickly and I did the ... read more

good morning from my lovely little beachside motel room! yesterday was a total contrast from morning to afternoon. In the morning I headed out early (due to jet lag not keenness) paired up my phone to my car, turned off my sat nav and headed towards to sea. I knew I had to go east then up and I was in no rush so I took it leisurely and I probably only knew where I was 2 or 3 times in the whole journey. As I headed north I stopped off at beaches and parks, took photos, walked with my toes in the sea and got freckles on my nose. The beaches on the whole were empty with the occasional fisherman or leathery old lady. The water was absolutely flat and warm like soup. There weren't ... read more

Good morning from a still quite dark outside Fort Lauderdale! I'd originally planned to write this blog last night but sleep got the better of me and I ended up with an iPad to the face So I thought it would be best to leave the blogging until today. I'm feeling a little more human than I was when I got here last night! Yesterday felt like an exceptionally long day, even though I've had much longer journeys (the epic train journey of doom in Vietnam for example). I flew with American Airlines, who I was quite sure I hadn't flown with before. I maintained that illusion until I got on what pretty much amounted to a sopwith camel (google it!) and it all came flooding back to me. The aircraft had a 2, 3, 2 ... read more

Tonight is the final evening of our adventure so i thought I should nip onto an actual computer (doing it on my phone is far harder than it should be!) and do one last catch up. i haven't updated for a few days because the adventure section of the holiday had finished and in theory we should now be as chilled as polar bears in winter! This isn't quite what went down however... Monday - the journey back from Koh Chang was only beaten in rubbishness by our crazy train journey from Hanoi to Hue. We were picked up from our hotel (over an hour later than we should have been) by a little white people carrier. Our bus was supposed to leave at 8am sharp from the other side of the island so when we ... read more

Was an absolute treat this morning to wake up when we woke up and gently stroll the breakfast. (By stroll I mean walk a little bit to the cable car then wait 10 minutes for it to arrive then get lost looking for the restaurant) it was pouring with rain but we weren't that bothered to be honest. Breakfast was amazing and Eireann got both of our monies worth - that girl loves breakfasts!! We returned to the room and finally got a chance to wash our clothes and luckily the sky was brightening so We'd have a chance to dry them too. We changed into our swimming stuff and walked about 50yards to the beach, picked a couple of deck chairs an just relaxed! I went into the sea and had a good swim. The ... read more

Super early start (for a change!) and we got in a taxi to take us to the airport where we were catching an express mini bus which would take us directly to our hotel right on the beach at Koh Chang (direct translation - elephant island) We got in the taxi and the driver said 400baht to the airport. I instantly told him to stop the car and said we wanted to get out unless he turned on the meter. He looked a little deflated but having had many people try their best to rip us off over the past few weeks we knew what was what. At the airport the meter read 200 baht and when we handed over the money he asked for a 200 baht tip as he had "looked after us with ... read more

The wonderful little hotel organised a taxi to pick us up at 7am so that we could be at the border by around 9am - a good hour before the tour buses started to pull up in their droves! They even offered to open the kitchen up 30 minutes early so we could have a proper breakfast before our long journey. We sat down at 6:30 on the dot and we were greatest by staff in pyjamas scurrying off to get ready. Then we waited and lovely camp man brought us menus, took our order and then brought mine out 40 minutes later. Eireann (who turns into a gremlin if not fed promptly) waited another 10 minutes before being presented with a plate of chicken noodles. We had no time to correct the mistake as our ... read more

We started slightly later than planned today as during the night Eireann was quite poorly. She was better by morning but we were both feeling pretty tired. Breakfast at the hotel was very simple but very yummy and helped me feel a little more human. Our tuk tuk driver took us to Angkor Wat first and agreed to wait for us under a tree somewhere in the general direction of about 200 other tuk tuks. Angkor Wat is HUGE. The sun was beating down and the dark rocks were reflecting a lot of the heat back up. Before we even crossed the lake to the entrance of the outer wall we were sweaty and gross and were really glad to get into the shade of the temple. The temples are very impressive. There were, however, 1/2 ... read more

Another very early Cambodian start we boarded a bus for the north. We bought our tickets yesterday from the hotel and were preallocated seats 10a and 10b.... Turns out that 10a and 10b are on the very back row and it was like being on a boat on rough seas. The road between siem reap and Phnom Penh was only partially paved and our driver had only one speed... Super speed!! We had two stops which totalled about an hour in time and still made the journey in about an hour less than we should have! Cambodia is very different to Vietnam. It's so very flat and very agricultural. The majority of the countryside we drove through (at great speed) was rice paddies. The houses are all up on stilts although I'm not sure why as ... read more

Our very fancy hotel meant a very leisurely morning. It's made an awesome change not having a pre 5:30 am alarm call. Breakfast was delish! The hotel is owned by a pair of frenchs and they do wonderful pastries etc. It was all washed down with fresh passion fruit juice... Amazing!! We had arranged a tuk tuk for the morning to take us to killing fields and S21. There was an option of going to the Russian markets afterwards (for a little light relief I imagine) but Cambodia is more expensive than other places we've been as they use the dollar as their main currency so things tend to be in whole dollar denominations. We were a little late meeting our tuk tuk but he didn't mind and we set off in the mid morning dust ... read more
