Hello all! Well, today was my last day in Aussie-land and hence my last travel entry. Hopefully you haven’t been to annoyed with the email alerts and have enjoyed the journey so far. This morning was a little rough, and for a change it was not from the wine or VB’s (slang for Victoria Bitters beer, which I have taken quite a liking to :). No, this morning I found myself in a very disagreeable state thanks to the second-degree sunburns I have in random places on my body. Actually in most places I feel ok, but the back of my legs are not happy right now. Like the Tin Man in Wizard of Oz, every once in a while I need to grease ‘em up with aloe gel just to get going again. But, this ... read more
I started off the week heading to the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains are about an hour and a half outside of the city and you generally hop on a bus tour to go. My little tour picked me up in town and we started our sightseeing at Olympic Park (why, who knows, it’s there right) and then we were off via the Great Western Highway. I can’t tell you much about the beginning because I was sound asleep….but, once we got there, I had quite the adventure. A side-scam of these tours is to lure you in to paying for a few extra things. So when we ended up at “Scenic World,” which basically offers three different ways to travel across part of the mountain range (all at a pretty penny) I opted for option ... read more
******Okay, it’s Saturday and my first full day at Sydney. I’m staying at a Holiday Inn in the heart of Chinatown. Got a nice sleep and took my time getting up. My first stop was MarketCity, which is a shopping mall on top and a market on the bottom. Picked up a much-needed backpack there, fretted about the bus system, and finally headed out to the Circular Quay (pronounced “key”) which is the main ferry port. It’s also very near the Rocks district. The Rocks used to be nothing but slums up until the 1970’s. Various schemes were hatched to raze the area and build modern high-rises. However, a huge hippie movement (yes, they had them here too) kept a small portion of the Rocks from the bulldozer. Now it is a cute little area with ... read more
Hi all! Just an update as to what I’ve been up to these days. I arrived here in Sydney about two-three hours ago, still slightly feeling the ill effects of a hangover that I have not been able to fully work off, thanks to last night’s insomnia. Fantastic combination, let me tell you :) I caught a glimpse of my eyes in the bathroom mirror and right now they resemble two little burning red dots…good grief. So before I shuffle off to call it a night I wanted to give you a recap of my last days in Melbourne. On Wednesday, I finally made it to the beach with Bridge and the kids. We weren’t going swimming, we just wanted to take a look and have a little lunch on the pier. The beach was somewhere ... read more
Dear all, Well I made it here safe and sound! The plane rides weren't too bad, although by the time I boarded in L.A. I was randomly staring at strangers and inanimate objects... Luckily I slept long enough that I was able to hit the ground running here and have not really had jet lag. Okay, so what have I done so far. My first day Bridget and I went to Oakleigh and went to the grocery store to pick up a few things. I expected to see very strange and exotic stuff but aside from eggs being stored on shelves and not in a cooler (Leola and Doug, don't laugh) and lunchmeat with outrageous prices (like over 20 bucks for turkey) it was very similar. Later on we had a "barbie" and I tried lamb ... read more
