Andy and I arrived in Madrid on June 18th. Sharon had gone ahead the day before to our apartment on Calle de la Cabeza near Tirso de Molina. It's a middle class neighborhood a few blocks away from the Plaza del Sol in Madrid. The apartment was a fun indoctrination into the compact life of urban, European living. We had everything we needed, just on a much smaller scale. Outside of our apartment was a small park, where the youth in the neighborhood congregated each night until about 2 am. With a double-digit unemployment rate in Madrid, there was always someone hanging out in that park. It could get quite loud in the evenings.
