Andy and I arrived in Madrid on June 18th. Sharon had gone ahead the day before to our apartment on Calle de la Cabeza near Tirso de Molina. It's a middle class neighborhood a few blocks away from the Plaza del Sol in Madrid. The apartment was a fun indoctrination into the compact life of urban, European living. We had everything we needed, just on a much smaller scale. Outside of our apartment was a small park, where the youth in the neighborhood congregated each night until about 2 am. With a double-digit unemployment rate in Madrid, there was always someone hanging out in that park. It could get quite loud in the evenings. I have accepted a job as a business instructor at Al Ain Women's College in the United Arab Emirates. After years of accumulating things with the idea that we might one day have enough, my wife and I have decided to spend the next few years exploring the world and perhaps even bridging some cultural gaps. God willing, we may make a difference. On June 13th our youngest son graduates from high school. We have sold our house and are in the process of getting rid of all of our stuff that we cannot take with us in a couple of suitcases. Our first stop will be Madrid Spain.... read more
