Asia May 3rd 2014

We wake up early today and do another bike ride. We meet more of the local people and see the sights. We then eat breakfast and the Shelly and I do a canoe trip since she missed the one last night. Once we get back, we shower and pack and then wait for our houseboat. It arrives around 12:15. The boat has 2 bedrooms and the staff. It takes off down the river and we cruise for about an hour, then they pull over to the side and they serve us lunch. After lunch we both lay down out on the main area (covered but open air) and take a quick nap, well mine is quick. I am up again before the boat starts moving. We continue on for several hours. We see a lot of ... read more

We started the day early 7:00am with a bike ride around the island. The bikes today were much better than yesterday. The countryside here is just so beautiful and the people are so nice. Everyone in India (where we have been) dresses so colorful. I just love the colors. We bike to an old temple built about 500 years ago. Everyone says hello and waves. We start stopping along the route and take pictures with locals. They seemed thrilled that we want their pictures. We even saw this older gentleman with this pole we thought he was using to knock down coconuts. Instead, he climbed it like a ladder and then climbed the rest of the tree and cut down the coconuts. It was cool. We bike for about 2 hours, then head back for breakfast. ... read more

We started the day trying to find bikes. They were supposed to be on the next street but that was closed. A cab driver saw us walking around lost and we told he what we wanted. He drove us to several places before we found a place to rent them. I cost us about $2 us to rent them. Off we went to go see the Chinese Fishing nets. We get there and see the boats and the fish. One of the nets groups invited us on board and let us work the net. You pull on the ropes and the counter balance helps raise the nets. It was fun. We continued on biking. Man am I out of shape, the bike is hard to ride and bumpy too. We go a little farther and the ... read more

We wake up this morning and pack up all our stuff. No matter what happens we are going to move from the hotel. $400+ a night is just too much. But, we are keeping our fingers crossed. We head out towards breakfast but stop at the SpiceJet office. I was sure nothing could be done to get on that flight but Shelly wanted to try anyway. We showed them we had a ticket for yesterday’s flight and had tried to cancel it online. They said we had succeeded and that the credit card had been credited. They said today’s flight was full though. But Shelly to the rescue. “isn’t there anything? Can’t we go standby?” Then they finally said if anything did become available they said “it will cost too much”. Shelly asks “How much?”. Oh ... read more

we wake up being sad knowing that we should be getting on a plane today to head to India. We decide to make the most of a sad situation. First we go have a nice breakfast down by the water, then we come back and decide to head to one of the beaches for the day. After getting ready, we went downstairs to find how to get to the beaches only to find out all the beaches are controlled by resorts and the cost is $130 per person. Well since we had to pay $400 for the hotel for the night, we really didn't want to pay that since it would just be what we did for the last week on the sail boat. Instead we decided to just hang here at the pool and just ... read more

Our sailing trip ended Sunday morning. We were deposited at the airport where our Hotel picked us up. We're staying in the same hotel we stayed at before the sail trip. We were allowed to check in early and got to the room. we then immediately went over to the Indian Consulate. The door opened at 9 and we were the first ones in only to find out the counters inside don't open until 9:30. we wait. At 9:30, we are first in line and try to talk with the lady. she is very hard to understand and just keeps saying no, no, no, don't come back. We do see a sign that says you can only pick up visas between 4 and 5. So Shelly takes off to surf and I chill in the room ... read more

We had our final day at sea. Shelly took the kayak in the morning and went over to the surf break and did a little kayak surfing. She did cut her leg a bit on the coral but had a blast. The captain then took us to an island that had showers and bathrooms,... and we spent 4 hours there. We got some great pictures with the palm trees. We snorkeled some and Shelly tried to surf kayak some more. After that, it was 3 hours back to the Male area. I wish we could have stayed somewhere else the last day and just motor'd in early. Instead we were in the harbor with all the other boats and in the flight path from the airport. We had dinner and just a lazy evening. Jamin and ... read more

Another lazy day in the Maldives. We started out at a sandbar and snorkeled for a while. We saw another sea turtle. The captain and first mate went octopus fishing and caught 3 of them. They also got several more fish off the back of the ship while we were traveling. We have fresh fish every night that has been caught during the day. After snorkeling, we had a 4 hour boat ride across the sea back to the atoll just below Male. We get to an island. the other 2 couples take off in the kayaks and Shelly takes off in the dingy with the first mate. They are in search of a surf board as there is a nice surf break that we can see. Shelly is not successful in her search. we have ... read more

Another day sailing thru the Maldives. It started out the same, head to a sandbar and snorkel. More beautiful fish and warm waters. I started to take more pictures but the underwater camera was acting funny so I stopped and just swam some. When I got back to the boat, I tried to figure out what was up but to no avail. I think a bit of water may have seeped into the camera. I lay it all out to dry and hope to get it back soon. Our next stop was another sand bar but this one was the turtle sandbar. oh, no, the camera is not working. we snorkel and see turtles. I found the one we all swam around. Luckily one of the other people on the sailboat had a camera in a ... read more
