Kenneth Tynan, the barking mad theatre critic, once wrote “A critic is a man who knows the way, but can’t drive the car.” I have become more and more convinced that this is true and this week brought it all home to me again. FAIR IS FOUL On Monday night, I went over to the Gielgud Theatre to see “Macbeth”. This production has gotten absolute raves from every critic I have read. They have waxed lyrical about the fact that Patrick Stewart is the best Macbeth in a generation; that Kate Fleetwood has redefined the role of Lady Macbeth and that [View Full Entry]

RADIO SILENCE I was appalled when I logged onto my blog and realised I had not posted since the 6th of September. Where have I been and what have I been up to? Well, the month of September is always a horrible time for me. I spend my Saturdays working and my Sundays prone in front of the TV, mostly sound asleep. For those of you who have forgotten, I work in an industry where we renew over 2,500 polices all on one day. As you can imagine, it gets a bit crazy the closer to the date we get. This [View Full Entry]

I’ve always said that God has a sense of humour. He gave me a boundless love of all types of music and he gave me the ability to learn every lyric to a song about the third time I hear it. He did not, however, give me a voice or the talent to play a musical instrument. That has never stopped me. I consider myself a singer because I sing all the time, and as Robert Fulghum so adequately stated, “singers sing. Period.” In the soundtrack of my life, one of the great contributors has been Elton John. I danced my [View Full Entry]

FRIDAY, 24 AUGUST When I was young(er) and living in New York, there was a group of us that always hung out together. We worked and played together and were inseparable for about ten years. Then, in rapid succession, Laura moved to Kansas City, Eileen moved to Florida and I moved to London. Logistically, it can be very difficult to see each other, but we always try. When I was in Kansas City this spring, Laura and I decided that we needed to do a reunion in New York. Margie, the one who hasn’t moved, had a rather big birthday in [View Full Entry]

Well, as I said in my last blog, summer has come and gone. We had one week where the temperature got about 30C and now it’s back down to 19C - or, in other words, it feels like autumn in the middle of August. So, when I woke up this morning, I had to find things to do inside. I started with the usual weekend coffee at Roma and tried to figure out how my new GPS works. Limited success, but I reckon I’ll just keep playing with it until it comes to me. Luckily, I was walking city streets today, [View Full Entry]

Summer has at last arrived. I do not make this statement lightly -- this summer has been very wet and very cold. Up until a week ago, we were still wearing turtlenecks and jumpers. But, this weekend it kicked in. Yesterday was glorious (but got away from me) and so was today -- bright sunshine and 30C/86F. Time to dig out the trainers and the camera and get walking. I knew I wanted to end up at the Tate, but very few of the published walks go down that way as it is in a bit of an ugly part of [View Full Entry]

Because life is never easy, I've been faced with the challenge of having to face the fact that even things on the net may not be permanent. The server that runs this site went down this weekend and everything I had posted for the past three months was lost. Luckily, with a lot of help from other people on the site, I was able to re-create most of what I had done in the past. I am still three down. One blog, Mount Amiata, appears to have lost the text but I've found the photos. Another, The Tour de France, I [View Full Entry]

For those of you who wonder why I do what I do and why I work so hard -- this photo sums it up. The woman standing next to me is Kirsten, a bright wonderful young woman who works for me full time. The other three are "temps". They worked for us last summer and they've come back again -- proof positive that ZPro does some things right. [View Full Entry]

What a treat! I was invited to a wedding reception that was held at the Savoy Hotel -- one of the great hotels of all time. Both the bride and groom work for ZPro, so it was fun to watch them celebrate their day. They are both Persian, so this was a traditional Persian wedding. Really fun time -- and some of the best dancing I have ever seen. Thought I would throw some photos up so you can see just how glamorous this was. [View Full Entry]

Having been too young for Woodstock and too poor for Live Aid, I have always wanted to go to an all day rock concert. I finally got the chance as my friend Mike was able to get tickets to Live Earth. Actually, he too is a member of tenUK, or as I like to call them, the miracle workers and they were able to get him six tickets. So, relatively early in the morning, Jeremy, Mike, Sabi and I headed out to Wembley Stadium for the event. We met our friends Vere and Henry there and the six of us spent [View Full Entry]
