I agree! I am baffled when I read other sites' descriptions of how warm and friendly the Chilean people are. Did they actually ever GO there? I have been all over Chile, and whereas they tend to be nicer in the north, the Chilean people as a whole were so rude to me that I have had recurring nightmares since I have been back. They are hateful to Americans, blondes, African-Americans, American "whites," and even myself, who speaks Spanish better than I speak English. I'm just sick of people promoting travel there by saying the culture is friendly. I mean, say the beaches and the mountains are beautiful, but don't say the people are friendly--that could amount to culture shock on a grand scale!!! Thank you for being honest about that!!!!!!!
Get back out there! I have had a great trip around Latin America reading your travel journal. Many years ago my New Zealand friend, who was a great traveller, simply jobbed her way from one trip to the next. Took a job for x number of weeks, for as long as it took her to pay for the next trip. For goodness sake, just get back out there, Graham. You have great writing potential and the world is literally your oyster. Bill Bryson, step aside!!!! Sue McCann
Number Nought Ive never heard that belt joke before. My housemate and I are still giggling. Come to Japan! Noone will understand your humour but youll have fun trying!
Sob Graham... It's been emotional. And I hardly know you. You should definitely be some some of travel writer. Or maybe even a presenter like Jill Dando. But with a happy ending, of course. Mwa xx
Emotional I was crying at your last blogggg. How could the Argies be so cruel?
You should have challenged them to a game of strings.
You need about 10 players for this. You have to sit in at a table with a parasol in the middle of it and tie a string the parasol and to a testicle. Then someone yanks one of the strings and everyone has to guess who's string has been yanked.
How about it?
you look younger than one year ago Hi,my dear teacher! When are you going to come back? I strongly recomend you not to cut your hair, your perfect LONG fire hair is your charm! i still remember it...
wtf?? i thought they woz separate continents?? YEAH graham!! have you been in brazil?? there's no crime OR poverty there!! i think you should reclaim ignorance and only visit nice, tourist-ridden areas AND, most importantly, should you stray from the plastic track, DON'T YOU DARE WRITE ABOUT IT!!!! in ENGERLAND, silly little island though it may be (north europeism), we don't value so much the oppressionalism INNIT BRA! YEAH! Far queue woo! woowoo! (childish? moi? NOO!)
Hi Son. Don't take any notice of the other women in the family ~ your hair looks wonderful! And please tell Mr Woo not to be so pompous. Is he a (north) American by any chance?
tsc tsc Wrong!
First: South America is not a continent. The Continent is named AMERICA . South, centre or north is just a geo-reference of direction.
Second: its' not all "enveloped by poverty and crime" at all... have you been in Brazil?
all you'd need to do is stick a big afro ginger wig on that botero sculpture, replace the book in his hand with a black sausage pizza and hey presto! you're a national figure! xxx
shamel yo! this is a MAD coincidence but these lads were calling me shakira last night in the pub! like "oi shakira" and things. and what's even MADDER is that these fittie fittie fit fit dutch boys were doing the same thing a while back! god damn my perfecto latino looks. or maybe it's my big fat bum! who cares? not me that's for sure! negative attention is better than no attention after all!(?) have you been called shakira too yet, seeing as how similar we look? when you come back to good ole blighty u may get all confused and think you're still in columbia!! sorry bout the lack of feedback on the actual blog like but it's all about me me me innit! by the way pleeeeeease cut your hair before you come home! i thought you left mr majieka behind in meheeco?? xx
i absolutely love your pic, esp the huge dog and the pile of steaming poo, but when you stopped being arsed to draw four panes in each window, did you not notice they all look a bit like crazy cartoony robot faces? i'm thinking the evil tv in willow the wisp? it makes it all quite sinister and i must say i quickly stopped laughing.
phwooooooorrrr Who'd have thunk it? Put a gun in grays hands and slip him into some army fatigues and you create an adonis....
dear god i'm going to go and take a cold shower!
I'm Andy McNab! I'm Andy McNab! I must be quick, AND this is the second time i've attempted to leave a comment because i'm on a CRIMINAL italian computer which uses milliseconds instead of good ole english seconds, but LOOK!! A COMMENT!! THIS is the best blog EVER!! the writer is a GENIUS!!!!! and THAT's from the HEART! loving the drawing and the pics you crazee f*cker! i hope you're like Mike off Spaced now and that, if i ever get a job and then a house, you come to my housewarming party with a gift of a landmine. you can be my armed doorman too! hoozah! love ya! xxx
Almost time to kill the fatted calf! So glad you made it safely to Colombia, son. My tears have now all dried and I have been busying myself putting your newly-acquired favourite food in the freezer for your return, as fish heads are somewhat cheaper than fatted calves! Every time I open the freezer their faces look back at me ~ their littlefeatures even more lived in than mine!
