| 30th November 2009 Mike Guzaski | WOW! - From: Lots of News! Reading this made me feel guilty I sat on the couch and watched a few Southpark episodes yesterday. This is an unbelievable travel companion. Keep your head up, all your stateside friends are with you spiritually, especially during the holiday season. Be safe, and looking forward to crossing paths again some time soon! |
| 25th November 2009 Caleb | Incredible - From: Not a Birthright, an Obligation This whole story is absolutely amazing Charlie and written very well. It sounds like you took a great deal away from the trip even if the lessons taught were harsh. I am happy to see that you still remain happy and committed to peace. With your permission I would like to forward this to others. |
| 21st November 2009 Mary Anne Hannibal | strength of character - From: Not a Birthright, an Obligation Charlie, I woke up today to find your blog in my email again. I have just finished catching up with it back to '06. Today's entry has moved me deeply. Bless you for sharing it. Your strength of character throughout your journey reminded me why I feel so close to this day to your parents, Leslie and Gary. You are a fine man, I am humbled to know you, and grateful you shared your story with me. Love to you and your family, Mary Anne |
| 21st November 2009 Cheryl Walker | what courage you have - From: Not a Birthright, an Obligation Dear Charlie I read your beautiful blog and was simultaneously horrified, moved, and inspired. You have great courage and thank you for telling this story. I had heard some of it from others before but really hearing it directly from you, whom I know, was very moving. I was at a Human Rights Watch dinner the other night and it was full of jews. I hope we can work together to prevent these human rights abuses. There is no substitute for standing up for what is right. Even if we die doing it. I applaud you. with love, Cheryl Walker |

What a lot of adventures you have had since Emma and I left you less than a month ago! I am so glad things have panned out so well. I'm sure there have been hard days but I love hearing about all the things you are doing and learning. I see that October 1 has turned to November 1! We'll hold that empty nest for a month and then have a grand celebration when you come home. Stay well. We love you. Mom |
| 29th May 2006 Ktv | Interesting - From: Been a While Hey came across your blog after searching for my cousins... I found it really interesting to discover what others think of our country the first time they see it! and how it is settling in to the "unkown" Sounds like you are having an awesome trip, you have prob seen more than most people that have lived here for years!! | 19th April 2006 Leslie & Gary | Dad says you are looking quite Australian! - From: Been a While This one was well worth waiting for! Your excitement before the trip and when you returned was just palpable on the phone. We are so happy that you are having such an exciting time. Somehow there is a little TOO much talk of drinking in everything I read. How does anyone in that country avoid becoming an alcoholic???! I love the references and pictures of the country pub. It reminds me of a place where we spent Christmas in England. All locals, 400 years old, coal fireplace. Just fabulous. Keep having fun and sending these great pictures. Love, Mom and Dad |

| 24th March 2006 Jim Johnson | spiders and bugs and beer - From: The Festival State You have to be real careful especially after blowing the froth off a few cool ones. I remember back in my Thailand days after having a few drinks with some friends I damn near steped on a viper. It was a good thing a friend pushed me down. Have fun. JJ |

| 6th March 2006 Leslie & Gary | OUCH! You call that pink!!! - From: Homesick but Having Fun We're not supposed to say we told you so, but we told you to wear sunscreen. Actually with that sunburn, you don't look like you could have found sunscreen that would have helped. Dad and I love to hear your joy in stepping into the culture of Australia. It is the best part of living in another country. Keep that wonderful mind open to all you are about to experience. AND stay out of the sun for a week! Love, Mom & Dad |

| 19th February 2006 Leslie | Roo steaks after you just got on a first-name basis with one!!!! - From: Settling In Nice to see you out in nature. That is one thing I know you will love about Australia. As I see you petting that sweet kangaroo, I can't imagine you planning for your first roo meal! You look great. Glad you've had this time to relax and refresh before the deluge of work and life descends. Love, Mom |

| 13th February 2006 Pam Sims | Hello from your cousin - From: A day at the Beach after a long day of Traveling Hey Charlie, So far Mike and I have been enjoying your emails. We're glad you decided to write more often instead of once in a while. It usually took us a couple of reads to get through Ben's, but they certainly were interesting. We wanted to tell you how sorry we were to hear about your grandmother. It's tough to loose someone who is so close. Nashara's sister-in-law is in Egypt now and we are trying to see if we can visit her while she is there. Sure hope we can, it would be awsome to see the pyramids. Just wanted to write you a short note to tell you to keep the emails coming. We enjoy them a lot. Let us know if the kangaroo burgers are as tasty as the buffalo burgers (smile). Pam |
| 12th February 2006 Leslie (MOM) Wood | You are abundance - From: A day at the Beach after a long day of Traveling Charlie, I love the way you are approaching this adjustment to Australia. You were so fabulous in helping me and all of us in the last week after your Bubby died. Have a great time and know we are loving hearing about your adventures. |
| 8th February 2006 Kerry Henley | Australia is one lucky continent! - From: Anticipation OMG Charlie, I am so sad that I won't be seeing you before I graduate. I know it was partly my fault for being super busy with the med school interviews and all. I have totally been kicking myself though....I was IN CHICAGO from Jan. 30-31 for an interview at the University of Chicago and I didn't even think to call you! I thought you had already left but apparently not! Anyway, who knows, if I end up in Chicago for med school, I'll be seeing you eventually! Anyway, I just wanted to say that I subscribed to your blog and that I'll be reading it faithfully. Good luck, have a great time and remember that DVD I showed you of those crazy jumping great whites before you go swimming! |
| 3rd February 2006 Andy Gilbert | Good Luck - From: Anticipation Good luck on your great adventure Charlie. Check the sea first when you swim and stay the hell out of billibogs. I have a rule of thumb..#238, never get out on body of water where you can be used as live bait. #241 is stay away from areas where you would be considered a prey item. Great Whites (guppies) and Salt Water Crocs. It's a good idea to defer on the part of prudence. Don't want to hear about a career change to hoer dourve. Wouldn't be a smart career move. |
