I am finally home...well it has been a week but I am still recovering. My last week in Spain was pretty chill. After MM left Lidia and I just kinda hung out and started packing. It was so hot and most of our friends had already left Spain so we just stayed at the apartment. We were both kinda ready just to be home. The journey home was the longest 36 hours of my life. I flew from Madrid to London on Tuesday, the 5th, at 9 pm. My flight was supposed to be at 8 pm but it was delayed. I got to London at 10:30 pm, which was 11:30 pm Madrid time since London is an hour behind. I spent the night in the Gatwick International airport because my flight was at 9 am ... read more

Waiting for Mary Margaret to get to Madrid was the longest month of my life. I couldn’t even really believe that she was in Madrid until she arrived at 7 in the morning and was jumping on me and screaming. Despite her long flight she wasn’t that tired so we went back to my apartment to drop her bags off and then went to meet Aizza and Carolin at Ch & Ch, a churro’s place in the center, for Carolin’s last day. Afterwards we walked back to my apartment so Mary Margaret could see some of the city. By the time we got back we were both hot and tired. The jet lag had finally hit MM and the fact that I hadn’t slept at all the night before was starting to effect me. After our ... read more

June!! Also known as the month of my birth but it also happens to be the month where I have to say goodbye to most of the friends I made while in Madrid. Most of them have either already left or are leaving fairly soon. It also means that my time in Madrid is quickly coming to an end. I can't believe that it has been 5 months already and that it is almost time to go home. But let's leave that alone until the time comes. So exams are over and I passed everything! It feels weird to not have to make the hour long commute to school everyday but I am trying to not to hard to be upset by it. On June 1st, I had to say goodbye to one of my friends ... read more

Vienna is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to! I loved everything that I saw...the city center, the country side, the food, and most importantly the people I met. You may be wondering why we went to Vienna since we don't speak German at all. Well I had heard that Vienna was a beautiful place and we have a friend there, Florian, who was an international student at our school, that we wanted to visit. Billy Joel's Vienna may or may not have influenced our decision as well. We left Madrid at around 3:30 pm on Wednesday (the 8th) and got to Zurich for our layover at about 5:30 pm. We had a three hour layover in Zurich so we just wandered around the airport for a while and then sat by ... read more

So this is my second update this week. I wanted to have just one completely separate one for Paris so this is for what has been happening in Madrid while I was not in Paris. The Sunday before we left for Paris (the 15th) Lidia and I were going to the city center to meet a friend for dinner on her last night in Madrid. When we got to the center we were greeted by crowds of people protesting. There were at least 5,000 people there, and they were protesting the government and the financial crisis. That day also happened to be the day of Madrid's patron saint, San Isidro, and there was a huge festival going on in the area we lived in. So we had waited 20 minutes just to get inside the metro ... read more

Sorry It took me so long to upload the pictures. I had an exam on Tuesday, my last day of classes on Wednesday and graduation from the international program at my school on Thursday. But anyway here is Paris! *For those of you who love Anastasia (like I do) will get the title name. Paris. The city of love. Well It is definitely a beautiful city with lots of love everywhere. I had a fun time in Paris seeing everything and just hanging out with the people I was with but I think Paris is a little overrated. It is such a tourist trap and everything is so expensive but I guess the city with the Eiffel Tower and the Mona Lisa can be proud. So we got there Wednesday night (the 18th). We met up ... read more

This post will be more of a visual explanation of my adventures. So I will try to keep this part short and let you guys look at my pictures. One of our friend´s from the States, Amanda, came to stay with Lidia and I for a few days. She studied at Oxford from January until March and then traveled around Europe, ending her trip visiting us in Madrid. We did the touristy stuff during the day and then at night we showed her the real Spanish nightlife. One night, we met up with Carolin and Aizza and went to a salsa party. Before the party, we took bachata and salsa lessons and then we were able to practice with some pretty good dancers. Carolin and I were a bit confused because there were not enough guys ... read more

So I was looking at my last entry and I realized it has almost been a month since I have written. Sorry about that. For the first two weeks of April I was just basically going to school and working on projects/studying. We went out a few times but nothing too exciting. And then once spring break started I figured I might as well wait until the end and do a really big entry instead of two separate entries. So I suggest that you give yourself sufficient time to read this since it covers basically the whole month of April. Well as I said I had three presentations, a paper and a midterm during the first two weeks in April. So basically I was working on all of that with breaks in between for things like ... read more

It has been raining at least half of every week for the past three or four weeks. I am so ready for warm weather and sunshine I can't stand it. Last weekend we had a few days of sunshine and 60 degrees weather and I shocked all the little old ladies in my neighborhood by wearing shorts and sandals. I love seeing all the looks I get for showing off my in-need-of-a-tan legs. Apparently in Madrid, no one wears shorts until it gets much warmer. They all roam around in their winter coats and scarves. I personally don't see how they stand it on the metro and buses. It gets so hot and there is no AC. But hopefully it will get warm soon cause I am ready for summer clothes! I didn't think St. Patrick's ... read more

Well I didn't exactly bring my camera everywhere but I do have a lot more pictures than last time. In Spain, the week before Lent starts, there is a celebration called Carnaval. Basically everyone dresses up in crazy, colorful costumes and there are parades and parties for a week straight. For one of the nights of Carnaval we went to Shoko, a club where my friend Susie is a promoter. The theme was superheroes but most people just wore whatever costumes they had. Lidia, Susie's sister, and I just wore masks, Susie was a clown. Shoko has makeup artists that give free makeovers so Lidia and I decided to do it. It turned out ok except for the girl who did Lidia's makeup got a little eye shadow happy. We had fun going back and forth ... read more
