Canadian Rhodes
I traveled and moved a lot growing up as a child. Summer vacations were often when my family would put everything into storage and then we would go on a roadtrip camping all across Canada and the northern United States; ending with us landing in a new city in Canada. It certainly posed some unique issues growing up, never staying anywhere long enough to build long-term friendships(especially considering that this was long before the dawn of Facebook or similar internet based communication methods). Once I finished high-school and was able to assume control of my life, I was able to put an end to that craziness. I attempted to settle down, but something always felt amiss to me. It was not until 12 years later that a couple good friends of mine convinced me to take a trip with them to Puerto Vallarta, in Mexico, and this sparked something in me. It made me realize that jumping in a plane, flying somewhere new and submersing myself in a new place was something that I truly loved and had been missing from my life for a very long time. Over the next couple years I began traveling more, attempting to travel somewhere new at least once, but typically twice a year. My next destination was a solo trip to Tenerife, where I rented a motorbike and road all over the island, stopping in little villages for coffee or dinner. Then back to Mexico, but over to the east coast to spend time on the Atlantic Ocean. After that I flew to Belgium, where I rented a car and explored a vast majority of the countryside of Belgium, The Netherlands, and a quick dip into northern France; often just renting a hotel in whatever city/town/village I decided to have dinner in that day. After that was another trip to Mexico, this time back to Puerto Vallarta for a very unique opportunity to spend New Years Eve there. Then I started planning my biggest trip yet, which was to travel to Vietnam for three weeks, with a good friend of mine. We actually extended this to push almost 4 weeks. We left at the beginning of February 2020. Our plan was to purchase motorbikes(or rather scooters) and ride down to Saigon, then try to make it over to Thailand. I ended up having such an amazing throughout Vietnam that I never made it to Thailand, except to fly to Bangkok to catch the return flight booked months earlier. This trip changed me, or rather, it made me fully aware of my own wanderlust. For all the years I spent trying to anchor down my life, the only thing that I truly want from life is to continue to travel and see more of the world. I'm not talking about traveling to resort towns and visiting all of the tourist attractions. No, I want to thrust myself into new locations, back roads, small towns and see all the beautiful nature that this planet we call Earth has to offer. Covid has certainly made this difficult, but as of April 2021, I have left Canada for Montenegro with no return date. After much thought and discussions with people I care about, I have decided to start this blog about my adventures. Welcome to Canadian Rhodes 😊
