Dam?
Any idea who funded the dam? Is the drought worse than usual this year (as in rest of sub-Sahara)? I have anxiety about being able to flush our toilet!

Britney is toast!
Chantel has been missing out on all the fascinating details about Brit's latest meltdowns re panties, shaving her head, tatoos, two checkins to rehab etc. KFed is starting to look good. And American Idol is underway and Academy Awards coming up. Don't worry--I don't get American TV here either, but the internet has it all--unfortunately!

luxury!
Air conditioning, plus regularly scheduled power and water outages. Here, in Mexico, we never know when the electricity and water gods are going to be angry. Though the water company does answer e-mail questions now re estimates of the duration etc!

food for thought?
I still can't get a fix on Ghanaian food, given your eclectic forays so far. Spicy soups with mystery meat floating on top? But banana bread sounds close to home. I thought there would be a lot of fish, given your photos of the fleet? And a lingering British influence--toast and marmalade?? What are you two going to do to showcase Canadian talent? I guess you could practice doing the Molson'e Rant? Remember that, a few years ago? proud to be Canadian??!! Chantel, you should write up the funeral in more detail for your SA 356 exotic event participant observation exercise. Plus, go with Ann for a traditional Ghanaian meal and write up a restaurant review c.g. The Sun or The Province here!

Doing the bureaucratic dance and the lame lady jig--I love it. The tone is about right as well--aware, positioned, but not critical of difference in ways of doing things. Shows respect, from both of you. Rule one of ethnographic work involving participant observation, although they don't seem to talk about this in the qualitative methods textbooks.

welcome to the 3rd world
These enties will be perfect fodder for my 3rd world development course this summer, as I start with 1st impressions and feelings of otherness. Just crossing the road from airport view motel was an "other" adventure. Funny, how all our automatic p.c. conditioning becomes unglued in such circumstances. Reuben is a saint, and, personally, my solidarity with the common people tends to evaporate fast at 40+C and 90%+ humidity. i.e. I will embrace the car and the driver without compunction. Dorm sounds perfect. is security a problem in general? Did you take your lap tops with you? I forgot to ask if you have digital or mini casette tape recorders for interviewing?

Wedding crashers and kneecap crushers
What about the ceremony itself? And what was the food like? Music? Dancing? Who attended? How much does peanut better cost?
