For all the poverty prevalent in the Philippines it is quite baffling why the crime rate of the more affluent countries is generally much higher. Hmm. You can check out the stats from Nationmaster. It seems like you have a greater chance of being murdered or robbed in the more prosperous countries than in our islands. Here's the link.

What an action-packed post! I've never actually been to Negros Island itself but I'm about to go there to update the Visayas section of the Lonely Planet guide. If you or any of your readers have any other "must sees" for the Negros please let me know. You can add suggestions to the comments section of this post here. I'm after fun, weird, quirky stuff. Look forward to hearing from you!
Filipino Glad to hear you've enjoyed the Philippines - I'd do almost anything to be back there again (well almost) - your stories we're very evocative although I obviously didn't get chatted up by boatloads of men - but Hannah would have done had I not been there with her!!!
Trust Bel and her weighted walking boots! Good ploy to get your bag carried for you tho!
Glad you resisted the jungle fun girls! missin you lots!
counting down the days till i can see you again caitlin, but still glad everythings going smoothly and none of you have had your faces smashed in...a la will dunford style!

Crickets Can recommend the crickets when you get to Bangkok - there is sometimes a stall at the Eastern end of Soi Rambuttri (parallel to the Khao San Road) - by the way, the tuk tuk drivers in Bangkok are a real rip off, suggest you walk away from touristy areas and hail a taxi and insist on them using the meter - you may have to try a couple of times but the price is so much better, it's worth it! Angkor at sunset - what a magical experience! Pete
