Cairo Cassady

Cairo

Hi. Thanks for taking a look at my page. My real name is Erick and I'm from the Chicagoland Region (a very special place called Schererville). I'm an American so that pretty much means that I enjoy loud things that get poor gas mileage, guns, baseball games (White Sox!), and meat products... and don't let anyone fool you... we all wear cowboy boots here and dream of global domination. Nah, just kidding... well, about latter parts anyway. My heroes include Robert DeNiro and Staypuft the Marshmallow Man. I've started this blog to chronical my adventures over the following years, so I'm happy that you've come to join me. Maybe one day I will meet some of you and glory (danger?) may ensue. I've traveled only a little bit, but my favorite part of it was meeting all of the extremely cool people from all over the world, both natively and in hostels or in other places. Feel free to write some words of en(dis)couragement, declarations of lust, share wisdom, exciting or erotic stories, the occassional hatemail, or just say 'Hey'. Stay solid. Stay righteous. God bless you. Apollo bless us all. Honor the gods. Love your woman. And defend your country.

Oh, and since I have an international audience I want to thank the following groups of people:
First, thank you TravelBlog for giving me one more avenue with which to harass the unsuspecting... and a place read about and see what others have done.
Thank you Australia for bringing us the Mad Max series of movies... they've influenced us all for the better. They've taught me what it means to be a man.
Thank you Ireland for Shamrocks and Grandma.
Thank you Italy for naturally busty lass's with legs that don't stop and tanned skin. Also for Ducati bikes and raviolli.
Thank you Japan for the Metal Gear series of videogames... but not for anime. And your trains are oh-so reliable.
Thank you Germany for your automotive exploits. Sehr Gut.
Thank you Great Britain for the Rolling Stones, Gin, and Triumph Motorcycles... no hard feelings about the revolution.
Thank you Greece for the Gods and also for saucy girls... and Achilles.
Thank you Mexico for tasty food and more saucy girls and Mariachi Music. No hard feelings I hope about usurping large quanitities of your land... at least you've taken back East Chicago. :)
Thanks to Scandanavia for the Vikings and the cool bronze longboat I have in my room.

More to come?

After Chiang Khong, we crossed over the Mekong river into Laos, which was the next country on our list. We'd ordered visas and had no problems. I exchanged some of my baht for kip, which is also brightly colored and comes in very large denominations. The government police didn't give us any guff and we loaded into a pickup truck and were carted off to the dock. Firstly we registered our passports with the police while a man offered us some shabby looking smokage. I bought a kit-kat. The tropics are not a gentle climate on chocolate goods, but it was still tasty. I also bought a can of meat flavored potato chips because we were getting desperate. After a while we loaded onto the boat that would take us down the Mekong to Luang Prabang ... read more

Here we are! It's been a few weeks, and now Thailand is behind us (for the most part). We kicked it off with our epic 22 hour plane ride. My butt was numb for a couple of days after that, but we've come back to full health. I'd forgotten how antsy you can get on a long plane ride, but I've since been reminded. We finally landed, at the end of all of it, at suwannapoom (that's kind of how you spell it but not really) airport after having not really slept in a couple of days. I kind of wanted to be by myself at that point, but when you're travelling with a group, that is no longer a choice and I had to keep my patience with me at all costs. The woman at ... read more

Hi. Welcome to the first installment. I'm happy to be here, and I hope you're happy to be here, too. We leave tomorrow for a six-week slog through Indochina. We are chalk full of true grit. True grit. In order to help us prepare for the tropics, Jackie-Boy and I hollowed out a pineapple with an icecream scoop and blended together a variety of fruits and ice and gin, then poured it back into the empty husk and drank it. Later we made pina coladas, and tried to saw open a coconut, which was a project that was unfortunately abandoned due to difficulties. With all of that under our belts, I think we're good and ready for the challenges that lay ahead. Jackie and I were prescribed the controversial drug 'Lariam' to combat the diseases of ... read more
