Santa Baby, send a little snow to me. Oh Please.... I absolutely could not resist, so I am going to take a few minutes to share with you the absolute giddiness that I experienced this morning. And I thought I was excited when I was finally done teaching for the week, and Christmas break had finally arrived! Earlier this week I was speaking to one of the other English teachers about the weather. You'd think the world was coming to an end, everyone was so shocked by how cold it was here. I admit it was a lot colder, but [View Full Entry]

Joyeux Noel Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Nice
Vin Chaud, Vin Chaud, and more Vin Chaud So I finally got my Christmas plans sorted out, and Shannon and I are going to Berlin for Christmas! I took the day Saturday and went into Cannes so Shannon and I could discuss and finalize all of our plans. We booked our flight to Berlin, so I will be enjoying all of Berlin's festivities on my birthday and Christmas! Apparently, there are 60 some Christmas markets, so that will give the two of us plenty to do. We're thinking that we will come back to Nice around the 26th or 27th [View Full Entry]

Roma Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
The Eternal City I finally got to visit Sarah Catherine in Rome! I left Friday afternoon as soon as I finished classes, and got there fairly late, and I stayed until Tuesday afternoon, so I had a nice few days (and now A LOT to blog about!). So my flight was supposed to leave Nice around 7 p.m., but we left a little late, so I didn't get into Rome until around 9:30. Then, I had to take the train (Leonardo Express) to the Termini Station (my hostel was right next to the train station). When I got off the [View Full Entry]

C'est la vie So the past couple of days have been pretty gross and rainy--could probably explain my rather morose mood, and this rather long and rambling blog entry haha. Can't complain too much since the rainy days are very few and far between, but those kinds of days are definitely the hardest. Trying to save money on our salary means avoiding activities that cost money. That's not too difficult when the weather is nice since there are plenty of trails and "outdoorsy" things to do to keep me occupied, but when it's raining I usually end up sitting around [View Full Entry]

Thanksgiving  Europe
Thanksgiving! Minus the mac-n-cheese and football but with a lot of new friends! Last night was the first of two Thankgivings I'll be having here in France. The other English assistant at my school is actually from England, but has a roommate from Charlottesville who went to school in Maryland. So they had a ton of other assistants over...I think there ended up being 15-16 of us. So everyone brought a ton of food and wine and we basically gorged ourselves for about 3-4 hours. It was more than I could have wished for really. It was so nice to [View Full Entry]

Roomie!
The Amazing Pumpkin Pie!

The most scenic way to burn 700-800 calories Yesterday my roommate and I hiked from our apartment in Cimiez to Ville-Franche (the next town over from Nice) and took the Sentier Littoral. The weather was absolutely gorgeous! It was sunny and warm--for most of the day I wore just a tshirt, and it's almost the end of November! So we walked down from our apartment through town to the port, and then when we hiked around the cap of Nice past Coco Beach to the Sentier Littoral trail head. The trail is a lot of fun, not quite real hiking [View Full Entry]

NEW MOON! Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Nice
Lesson of the Day: When an ugly, French doctor asks you to take your top of for a chest XRay, close your eyes and imagine Taylor Lautner So basically the first half of this entry is for everyone who wanted me to spill about New Moon before it comes out at home. I went last night with my roommate to the 7:20 movie at the only theater I could find in Nice that was showing the original version (i.e. English not French), so my roommate could understand everything. Don't worry...definitely going to go see it in French and probably English [View Full Entry]

Well, not very much as been going on here. Work is going well, sort of. Seriously, I have never met more annoying high school kids in my life. I absolutely love some of my classes--I have a couple of higher level classes that are studying International Trade, and they are awesome. It's nice because those are my last two classes on Friday, so it's a great way to end the week. But some of my lower level classes I seriously dislike. Last week I almost had to kick a few of them out. One was "too tired" to work...cry me [View Full Entry]

Don't Touch My Radio! Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
Venezia! Venice was amaazing! I could not have envisioned a better trip, and I am so glad that Hannah and I got to go somewhere together! The ride there was a little too long, but not too bad. I got into Venice around 6 p.m. and the view from the train station is pretty awesome. I walked out to a gorgeous view of the canal at night with all the boats and gondolas. It felt like walking into a whole other world it was so amazing. The whole ambiance of the city is just so much different from anything that [View Full Entry]

Masks!

It's Vacation! So this next week and a half is vacation....random week in October why not, who wants to work anyway! Sometimes I just really love the way the French think. So this entry will be devoted to catching everyone up on the fun things I've done so far! I swam in the Med a couple of weeks ago--ridiculous I know, it was October and felt like 80 degrees--it was gorgeous. Seriously, I completely understand why people swim naked here. The water is so blue and so gorgeous that you just want it to touch every part of your skin [View Full Entry]
