Move There So I'll Have Someone To Visit Now I keep humming the theme song to "Arthur" - you know "When you get caught between the moon and New York City...the best that you can do is fall in love..." Ooops, I mean "San Francisco!" I think you should definitely consider moving there. Your date sounds fab (both the person and the experience).
enjoyed meeting you Thanks for making the special stop. You are so easy to talk to and I went home feeling very encouraged and positive. Enjoy your travels!
SF Bordello and Saturday Night Inquiring minds want to know, as does Rebecca. She's been eagerly waiting for a blog entry on Saturday night's adventures
Hi Forgot to mention in previous comments that your blog photos are great! Can't wait to see more photos, especially of Ireland. Are you taking the train to LA? I like that train - the Coast Starlight, and have taken it many times. Sorry to hear that you are a domestic jinx. Hope that clears up soon!!
Snowbirds I guess it's the time of year to head to AZ...Mike and I will be in Phoenix area this weekend for the rock-n-roll marathon (though only doing the 1/2). The weather reports look great!
birding on the highway!! Dear Bryan:
I sure hope you've already found someplace ELSE to stay when you are back in Tacoma!! I mean, we have homeowner's insurance, but.......
Your skiing and snow adventures sound like a ton of fun. I must take exception to your comments on birding drivers. I only use my binoculars at stoplights, really, I do. And I'm trying to write fewer notes to myself while driving, at Kevin's request. OK, maybe I did slam on the brakes when I thought I spotted a Merlin yesterday near a highway entrance ramp; but a Merlin spotting is important, don't you think??
I'm enjoying living vicariously through you; we're drowning in heavy rain here in Tacoma, so prepare yourself!!

What?!? Youre back in tacoma today? I thought we let you go already! Welcome for however long....It is not as much fun to live vicariously through you if youre here though.
love, a
Wow Sounds like you did the herringbone for awhile, anyway. Nothing to sneeze at - its pretty hard, especially for people with short legs (I'm referring to me, not you). Anyway, sounds fun!
I'm envious! I have only been to Anchorage once - back when I was in college at the University of Puget Sound and I was part of the cross country running team that ventured up to a competition at Kincaid Park. I can remember the rolling hills in the park pretty well, and I imagine it is pretty striking with the Alaska snows on the ground. In my mind's eye it seems like a perfect place for cross country skiing, just as it was a perfect place for cross country running in the mid-1980s when I was up there for a few days.
Of course, as we wallow in the rain and waddle down the streets that have been converted into streambeds here in Tacoma this morning, the idea of snow on the ground and crisp temperatures in the 20s sounds pretty nice too!
ANWR Just a quick update on the fate of opening up ANWR to drilling....Senator Cantwell of WA State either filibustered or threatened to filibuster on the proposed bill that included opening up ANWR to drilling and she successfully got that part of the bill removed. It won't be opened up for drilling this year, but this is an issue we will need to stay on top of. Let's hear it for biodiesel!
Alaskan snow Thanks for reminding me of what AK looks like in the winter....I do miss the snow (though not driving on ice). Glad to see you're having a good time with family.
Memories Thank you Bryan for helping me remember what I loved about Alaska. I think I will try to talk my wife into a trip there some day. I am glad you sound fulfilled. We are into our new year with verve. I look forward to hearing from you again. With much love from Outside....a
Way to go! Bryan,
It sounds like you're having a good time, and the shots from the camera look about as crisp as the temperature in Alaska! Have a great New Year! I've subscribed to the RSS feed for your site and so I get your latest posts within 30 minutes of when you make it. You're being watched ;-)
Happy Travels Hi Bryan, Thanks for letting us know of your travelblog site. Blogging is all new to me but I have heard of it.
Christmas was good. David and Paul arrived safe and sound and we had a great dinner at friends accompanied by Der's sister, Emily. Tim is in Newcastle, England. 2 out of 4 of us are asleep on the 2 couches as I blog, perhaps if there were 4 couches we'd all be asleep, or napping as it is called mid-day.
Glad to hear you are going back to Ireland. My father always believed that he was Irish although being born and raised in Scotland, and having a distinct Scottish accent.
I have just finished 'Tis by Frank McCourt and intend on reading his new book and also his brother's, Malachy, memoirs. Best read about Ireland, and you'll be a great help reading your blogs, before Der and I venture over there. No set time for that as yet but it is on the list.
Have a great R and R, and I'll be tracking you!
Love Nora
Combining three 'must do before I die' imperatives I will be taking a 5 month sabbatical in 2006. Staying in a destination long enough to learn the texture of daily life, long distance bike touring, and a personal photo sojourn in Ireland all mix to make this my mid-life crisis (some thought I would go for the red sports car). For two months I will travel by bike and Amtrak across the US to visit family, friends, and the great outdoors. Then it is off to Ireland for three months for the sole purpose of making all of you jealous. All this without eating wheat, rye, barley, oats, dairy, or s... full info
